Character ImageAccording to a release by Cryptic Studios, account information for an unannounced number of users was compromised in December 2010, and was only recently uncovered by a security analysis performed by the company.

The release states that names, handles, email addresses, dates of birth, billing address, encrypted passwords, and partial credit card numbers may be among the information compromised.

Users of the service who may have been affected (including this reporter) have been contacted by email, and advised to change their password if used on other services and accounts, particularly if they are financial in nature.

In their release, Cryptic Studios said "We are continuing to investigate this incident, and are taking even further action to strengthen our systems and redouble our security vigilance and protections."

As more information on the security leak becomes available, the Federation News Network will keep you apprised of the situation.

I received the e-mail too. Disconcerting that it occurred in 2010 and they just now found it in 2012.

It's quite disconcerting that it took a year and a half for them to determine there was a breach and to announce it to the public. It shouldn't have taken that long.

Wow are they on the ball!

I got the email as well. They probably sent one out to everyone who had an account at that time, so it doesn't necessarily mean that your account was hit.

Edit: I also love how the call it "routine security checks and upgrades". If it was routine, they seem to have failed to catch it countless times beforehand. xD Also, they need a proof reader: "we have discovered that certain of your account information".

Logout and when you go to sign in again, click on "Forgot your password". It should work then.

I had the mail as well. Immediately checked if i could logon with my old password before clicking anything in the mail (i thought it was a fishing scam email or somehting) but when i got bad password i went and changed mine asap. Glad i wasn't using credit cards back then. I used gamecards back then. Only when they weren't available anymore i gave up my resistance and went with paypal....
Hope they got better protection these days...

I bought lifetime when I started, I forgot how I paid for it, if it was by card, I no longer have that card and if it was PayPal, I've changed my password on that more times than I remember.

I think they just assume these things where taken, there's no way of knowing what exactly was taken.

All I know is I wasn't locked out of my account, I think my password is diffrent now from 2010 as well, should still probably change it anyway.
