A person had applied to Join our Fleet/House But withdrew the Request due to this reason:

    o'rlly?

No. You all do not pay for our accounts, as such you do not get to dictate to us whom and where we go. My husband and I have a couple of private fleets that are basically storage and close personal friend who play irregularly.

Due to reading that statement, I think it best to withdraw my application to your fleet. Thank you all for responding, and for the consideration ^^

This post is on the House Of Kular's Recrutiment Thread Here's the Direct Link Post #622 http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/sh...=1#post4758781

If possible could someone address this with a post to clearify to any one who may have the same question or thought. I felt that I was not in the postion to respond on behalf of the fleet. So I only said I was sry they left over such a little rule but wished them well. Thank you all Mopar out.

Well, to be fair, did she even discuss this with anyone? Or did she just go all explosive angry without asking for clarification or stating that her fleet was just a banking fleet?

From the post above, it seems like she jumped to conclusions and make assumptions... typical in the internet, without looking into things.

But I do agree that someone from the SFC should offer the official reply.

I always thought this was an anti-fraud clause, to prevent the Fleet bank from being looted for other Fleets.

Dark, there are multiple reasons for it, security is but one.

Karoth, whatever these people are or whatever their intentions may be, it serves us well to take some time to explain the matter fully, calmly and politely, even if only to cast ourselves in a better light.

I have contacted the individual privately offering a full explanation and my time should they wish to discuss the matter further. As this is a public forum, I would appreciate it if members would refrain from commenting further unless there is a development that needs to be attended to.

Back when I joined UFP, I was also in an F&F Fleet. I was told that I could move one of my characters over given that it wasn't a huge fleet or anything even coming close to the level of UFP's involvement. Ultimately, I left that fleet entirely for the UFP by transferring all of my characters over.

I think there's a level of reason involved in the decision to grant membership, especially given that I made a full disclosure in my application. If they said no, it was fine. But they didn't, and in the end, I've got two feet firmly planted here. Who's to say that wouldn't happen again?

I don't actually think they have misunderstood the rules, from the situation they have described they would be in violation of the rules and it isn't fair that some people be held to the rules and others not.

Ultimately who pays for their accounts doesn't matter. If people want to join UFP then they need to agree to follow the rules. I can understand some people reading our rules and thinking "no I am not happy to agree to these" which is their choice but they can't have it both ways. If they don't want to join then that is their choice and I respect that but it isn't fair for them to be bound to different rules than everyone else and all of the rules are there for a very good reason.

As for that specific rule there are a number of reasons why that specific rule exists, as has been mentioned previously one of those reasons is to do with security of the fleet bank.

If I were a member of UFP and say ABC fleet then I could easily withdraw items from the UFP bank and give them to people in ABC fleet, that way UFP members are losing out and getting an inferior experience because of people taking advantage and breaking the rules which is clearly not acceptable.

Years ago we had a huge amount of problems with people being in UFP as well as other Star Trek gaming groups and stealing a range of member only content and giving it to others. As a group we have never once backed away from helping out other groups if they request it and I can come up with numerous examples off of the top of my head where we have offered to support other groups or to create unique content for them yet there are those that would rather just take.

We even had some quite bizarre issues with conflicts of interest one such example I remember well when we had a senior member of another group working in the diplomatic corps who was basically just using his position here to further the interests of his own group by trying to get us in to binding agreements with his friends whilst snubbing or even worse hindering groups he did not like. That sort of thing just can't be allowed which is why rules like this exist.

UFP has a duty of care to its members and the work they do (be that donating to the fleet bank or creating content) and it is next to impossible to meet that obligation if people are in the position of having their foot in both camps as it were. You can never fully protect against these sorts of problems but rules like this do a lot to help to protect the membership and their experience.

Thank you for your comments Chris, I find myself largely in agreement.

However, this person has been contacted with a full explanation of the policy including but not limited to the security aspect of it.

Whether or not this person understood the rules, is being deliberately antagonistic or anything else is irrelevant. We owe it both to them and to ourselves to remain respectful, co-operative and polite and that is what has been done here.

I would again like to remind everyone that this is a CL1 forum and this thread is not an appropriate place for a discussion. An issue has been reported and taken care of, such is the purpose of the thread so I ask again that people refrain from posting here unless a further development specific to the Original Post needs to be brought to attention.
