Well in that regard I give you kudos.

I tend to be the same way, especially in other games such as Guild Wars or Dragon's Nest - I'm always a Cleric. I never deny myself an opportunity to give a swift kick in the posterior from time to time. xD

Yes Star Trek has to be changed for today's audiance, It is unlikely that the modern audiance would be able to watch something like Voyager or Next Generation.

Change Janeway into a hot 20-ish woman (who has sex at least once in every episode) and turn off Voyager's lighting (or replace it with overly bright shiny rooms with lens flare)?

I don't think people only want to watch mindless pewpew these days. No one just makes anything different. Personally I'm certain that if a producer had the courage to make a more civil Trek, it would be well received.
