News of the race for Federation President dominates news nets for much of the year. President Nan Bacco declines to run again, stating that while she didn't feel right leaving office during the Romulan crisis, "I've been here too long. We need new blood and new ideas."

I'm thinking that the Beta may begin in November. HMV lists Star Trek Online as being released in November, which is clearly not possible. So they've either pulled that date out of thin air - or once again misread/misunderstood industry communications.

I recon January release for game, end of nov/beginning dec for beta (which would be sweet as that is my birthday ).

I said to shatterhand yesterday on msn, 1-2 months more of development, max 1 month beta testing (open + closed), a few weeks fixing, then release.

This is based on a few places saying "beta just around the corner", knowledge of timescales, and common sense. They know they wont be a big xmas seller so delay til jan

I would be more willing to put money on a Summer 2010 release for the game. Cryptic have made several references recently to the state of development and that there is still quite a lot of work to be done.

That and the fact that Champions Online went into CB during October of last year and only finished up this August. When Star Trek Online finally enters CB, the server will likely only be up on weekends and only for a couple of hours - meaning that the same kind of timescale would be necessary to allow for appropriate attempts of game breakage.

Cryptic is in financial trouble already? Uh oh.

champions was released very soon after beta
It's generally customary, considering OB comes immediately after CB and release usually immediately after OB.

They haven't said they def gonna do an open beta - so many are in the closed!
    And no not financial trouble.
They just let slip by accident in their budget lol

Next, Atari confirmed that the next MMO out of Cryptic, Star Trek Online, is expected to launch no later than March 31, 2010. No platforms were mentioned, though the company has previously said that STO is coming to "both console and PC formats."

“Further out, Atari expects to launch Cryptic’s other MMOG, Star Trek Online, during its current fiscal year ending March 31, 2010.”

Ahh, thanks for the links, that's quite an interesting slip there hehe.

I would imagine that they will do an Open Beta though, as it would be needed to stress test the server load. Champions Online OB had approximately 40,000 people concurrently - which revealed a major issue with the launcher.
