Folks, sorry I have been away from the site. I suffered some pretty significant back injuries in a work related accident which laid me out cold for the past couple of weeks. I'm on the mend, and while it's still a little uncomfortable sitting at the computer, it's coming along. I expect to get things caught up over the next 3 days and be up and ready to push forward next week. Thanks for being so patient.

» State of the mission

Posted on Thursday February 7th, 2013 @ 6:42pm by Captain Nicholas Teron in General News

Okay, so here's what's going to happen:

1. The affected crew of the Vigilant manages to raise her shields despite the precautions taken to lock out the weapons and shields that was put in place before the senior officers disembarked to return to the station; this was ordered by the captain who was simply playing a hunch. For some unknown reason, even though we know the Vigilant's pre-fix codes we can't bring down the shields. At this point the captain puts together a strike team to board the ship and render the crew unconscious in a desperate move to save them. This JP will consist of the following people:

Teron, Cho, Takeda, Renault, Cohanzie, and Landry.

2. In a second JP: Grant, Sullivan, Trask, Madwan, and Valoru will be departing the station to head off to a renegade space station near the Arucanis Arm to track down the person who provided the Kentetenka's crew with their flight plan through a hazardous section of the Arm.

These may take a couple of JPs to cover in each case, but once we've gotten these written we'll start down the home stretch.

Any questions, or thoughts, just shoot me a PM and I'll give you any info you might need.

» Personal Log tips

Posted on Wednesday January 16th, 2013 @ 11:35pm by Captain Nicholas Teron in General News

If it's one thing that gets short shrift in this simm it's (Surprise!) PLs or Personal Logs. So I thought I'd take a second to give my take on Personal Logs just to clarify how to think about, and go about using PLs:

1. Personal Logs, in my mind anyways, should really be called personal posts in that, no one else but your character (and any NPCs you create) is involved in the post. This is just you developing your character. Whether it be the development of a sub-plot involving your character, or just you telling the rest of us what makes your character tick. This is the spot to do it.

2. It can be written in either 1st person, or 3rd person and is not exclusive to you writing out something that sounds like a diary entry. In other words, play around with it.

3. You might even develop a sub-plot originating with just your character over a period of time and then rolling it out into a full blown mission that winds up involving all of us in some capacity.

4. Put simply, personal logs are just that 'personal' so just disregard the log part. You are, obviously, allowed to write them out like your character is doing log entries into their personal terminals if you choose, all I'm saying is don't feel constrained by the word 'Log'.

5. What you CANNOT do in a personal log, however, is write for someone else's character, since they cannot be a joint author in a personal log.

6. Once you've developed a sub-plot to the point that you need to involve others, time it carefully so that it doesn't interfere with the other person's involvement in the main mission that is going on. You'll have plenty of time during relative downtime periods to fit it in.

Any questions about this stuff just fire me off a PM and I'll clarify it further.

» Debrief JP

Posted on Wednesday January 16th, 2013 @ 8:23pm by Captain Nicholas Teron in General News

Shortly I'll be sending each of you that is involved in the debrief JP a PM to let you know what you investigated and what you found so that you can relate that info to the others in the post. If you're not involved in this JP, or any other JP and would like to be, send me a PM and we'll brainstorm a way to get you involved.

Let's not forget doing personal logs as well. It's the best way to build your character and a lot of fun as you think up your own subplots for your character.

As always, if you have any questions or need a hand with fleshing out your character or ideas for your own subplots, feel free to PM either myself or Caymen (Valoru) and we'll gladly help you out.

» Mid-mission Roll call

Posted on Wednesday January 2nd, 2013 @ 5:26pm by Captain Nicholas Teron in General News

Alright gang, I hope everyone had a great holiday and are all rested up and ready to return to duty.

I've created a roll call thread in the UFP simm forum, please take the time to check in there so that we know you're still with us. I'll get this thing cracking very shortly and we can get back to mission.

Thanks and Happy New Year!
