New update you say? Well, looks like it's that time again... Time for Cryptic to unleash a new horde of lockboxes that will soon cloud our inventories with promises of fresh goodies! As usual, they have prepared a pretty diverse selection of ships, cross-faction consoles, traits, uniforms, and other minor rewards for you to spend your hard earned master keys on! Let's take a look at the two best and most anticipated offerings; [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

Surface Tension saw the debut of the Xindi species within Star Trek: Online. Described in the Xindi Lockbox Dev Blog posted on the 17th of July, the Xindi, following the the Sphere Builder incident in the early 22nd century became an extremely reclusive member of the federation, focusing on repairing the damage done to their sector of space: the Delphic Expanse rather on getting involved in inter-species affairs.

Following the events of "Surface Tension", the Xindi began to share its technology with other species.

XINDI-AQUATIC NARCINE DREADNOUGHT CARRIER

Name: carrier.jpg
Views: 873
Size: 53.7 KB

Sleek, elegant, and with a flair all its own. The Narcine Dreadnought Carrier is a full two-hanger ship with a design based on the Xindi Aquatics from Star Trek: Enterprise. With a great capacity for dealing damage, featuring a commander tactical bridge officer station and subsystem bonuses to weapons and auxiliary, this ship has loads of potential for both science and tactical-focus builds. Stats are as follows!

Faction: All
Rank Required: Real Admiral / Brigadier General / Sub Admiral I
Availability: Xindi Lock Box
Hull Strength: 40,500
Shield Modifier: 1.15
Crew: 1,800
Weapons: 4 Fore, 3 Aft
Device Slots: 3
Hangar Bays: 2
Bridge Officer Stations: 1 Commander Tactical, 1 Ensign Tactical, 1 Lieutenant Engineering, 1 Lieutenant Science, 1 Lieutenant Commander Universal
Console Modifications: 4 Tactical, 3 Engineering, 3 Science
Base Turn Rate: 9 degrees per second
Impulse Modifier: 0.19
+10 Weapon Power and +10 Auxiliary Power
Can Equip Dual Cannons
Console - Universal – Cascade Resonance Catalyst

The Aquatic carrier handles like a slightly sluggish destroyer. With the proper traits and build, you will be able to make laps around the heavier cruisers and still put out a significant amount of damage.

The Mobulai Frigates included with the ship are armed with 2 Phased Biomatter beam arrays , 1 Phased Biomatter, 1 Quantum Torpedo launcher and a Quantum Mine Launcher. At the time of this article's publishing, the advanced and fleet variants of the frigates have not been released. They are due for release soon.

XINDI-REPTILLIAN CONTORTRIX ESCORT

Name: escort.jpg
Views: 683
Size: 89.2 KB

Most likely instantly familiar to anyone who remembers the Xindi arc of Star Trek: Enterprise, this vessel is the part-and-parcel mainstay of the Xindi's warrior subspecies. With a design to match the reptile-like nature of its creators, this escort is the very definition of lethal. Boasting a +15 power to weapons, dual cannons, and a commander tactical seat, I for one foresee many successful high-end DPS builds utilizing this ship. Stats for the Contortrix are as follows;

Faction: All
Rank Required: Real Admiral / Brigadier General / Sub Admiral I
Availability: Lobi Crystal Store
Hull Strength: 33,000
Shield Modifier: 1.1
Crew: 50
Weapons: 5 Fore, 2 Aft
Device Slots: 2
Bridge Officer Stations: 1 Commander Tactical, 1 Ensign Tactical, 1 Lieutenant Commander Engineering, 1 Lieutenant Science, 1 Lieutenant Universal
Console Modifications: 5 Tactical, 3 Engineering, 2 Science
Base Turn Rate: 17 degrees per second
Impulse Modifier: 0.21
+15 Weapon Power
Can Equip Dual Cannons
Console - Universal – Xindi Weapon Platform

The Contortrix Escort is an extremely maneuverable and hard hitting vessel. Boasting 5 forward weapons, not much is likely to survive a frontal assault.

And of course, it just wouldn't be a lobi/lockbox set without bonuses for mounting the exclusives from both ships! Should you decide to sacrifice a couple of your console slots on either the escort or dreadnought carrier to mount both the 'Cascade Resonance Catalyst and Xindi Weapons Platform, you'll receive a whopping x2 bonus to hull and shield on any weapons platform you summon- in addition to a Ten percent boost to damage output. Is it worth it? Entirely up to the reader to decide.

Other noteworthy items in the Xindi lockbox include:
Mirror Ki'Tang Bird-Of-Prey
Mirror Escort Retrofit
Mirror T'Varo Light Warbird

Federation Console Pack – Aceton Assimilator OR Sabotage Probe
Klingon Console Pack – Enhanced Plasma Manifold OR Sabotage Probe
Romulan Console Pack – Aceton Assimilator or Enhanced Plasma Manifold

Also available are three new ground traits (Vicious, Ironsides, Savior), three new space traits (Intense Focus, Pattern Recognition, Momentum), and a plethora of new ground weapon packs and kit frames!

Adding onto the Lobi Store is the addition of a Xindi Tactical Bridge Officer with the unique trait 'Impatient' which increases the recharge rate of all tactical powers by 5%, a useful tool for any tactical or escort captains!

Make sure to check out the official announcement for the lockbox here.

How in the world did you manage to snag them both so quickly? Inquiring minds want to know!

eek!

The carrier looks neat, how are the frigates? Not a fan of the escort, but the universal consoles look like fun on both. I got excited for a new raider variant, but then I noticed it was just a 9 console retrofit. Neutral

The frigates are great! They will be much better when Elite Fleet variants are available to us.

I'm sorry to say that both consoles are mediocre at best. Damage dealt from the beam weapon leaves much to be desired.

I am loving all the xindi stuff and both ships. I been reading articles on other forums, they saying the new escort is the new JHAS. I have never had the pleasure my myself, but I am loving all things xindi ATM Smile

Does anyone else wish Cryptic could put together their news articles as well as the FNS writers put together theirs? These are always so much easier to read than those that Cryptic themselves put out.

How's the AI on the frigates? Do they drop mines near enemies, or do you just find yourself in a cloud of mines when you launch them?

I saw a carrier with the Dyson shield on yesterday, it looked gorgeous.

You can thank Torinth for that. He does fantastic work at keeping these articles as clear and neat as can be Smile

Pretty damn good. The AOE pulse they use is only triggered when it's close enough to affect a target. Same goes for mines.

Some stats on the Xindi-Aquatic Mobulai Frigates, and I don't think the Mine Dispersal Pattern Alpha III ability is obtainable anywhere else in game except with these Ultra-Rare (Fleet) Frigates. 14 mines x 4 Frigates (total of 56 mines) can potentially be deployed at once. If they are effective or not, is another story.

Rare (Blue) Quality Xindi-Aquatic Mobulai Frigates

2x Phased Biomatter Beam Arrays (1 fore, 1 aft)
Phased Biomatter Dual Beam Bank (fore)
Quantum Torpedo Launcher (fore)

Quantum Mine Launcher (aft)

Mine Dispersal Pattern Alpha I
Cascade Resonance Burst I (this ability mimics the functionality of the Carrier's console, but does not chain off multiple targets)

Very Rare (Purple) Quality Advanced Xindi-Aquatic Mobulai Frigates

2x Phased Biomatter Beam Arrays (1 fore, 1 aft)

Phased Biomatter Dual Beam Bank (fore)
Quantum Torpedo Launcher (fore)
Quantum Mine Launcher (aft)
Mine Dispersal Pattern Alpha II

Cascade Resonance Burst II (same as Rank I, but deals more damage)

Ultra-Rare (Fleet) Quality Elite Xindi-Aquatic Mobulai Frigate

2x Phased Biomatter Beam Arrays (1 fore, 1 aft)
Phased Biomatter Dual Beam Bank (fore)
Quantum Torpedo Launcher (fore)
Quantum Mine Launcher (aft)
Mine Dispersal Pattern Alpha III

Cascade Resonance Burst III (same as Rank II, but also increases the resistance debuff potency)

  • Mine Dispersal Pattern Alpha I = 7 mines
  • Mine Dispersal Pattern Alpha II = 10 mines.
  • Mine Dispersal Pattern Alpha III = 14 mines
