With Star Trek's 50th anniversary date rapidly approaching, the proverbial tap of information has done from trickle to flood.
Mr. Pegg, the recently anointed writer of the reboot's third installment, has been making the rounds on several sites, offering fans an idea of what's to come in the film as well as promoting his other films.
Following the departure of Roberto Orci from the role of writer, Mr. Pegg revealed to Den of Geek that they are completely diverging from Mr. Orci's script. While this isn't Mr. Pegg's first job writing for a major motion picture, he still finds the prospect of working on an intellectual property as large and important as Star Trek to be "terrifying". Pegg said,
Following criticisms of Star Trek and Star Trek: Into Darkness, Star Trek fans will probably be relieved to learn that Pegg recently told Comic Book Resources that Star Trek 3 would be returning to the series' television roots, "frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun". If true, this would be a major departure from the first two films since the reboot, which focused heavily on action and relied heavily on special effects to carry what many Trek fans consider to be whimsical plots.
Mr. Elba has been taking the silver screen by storm of late, staring in films including Thor (2011), Prometheus (2012), and Pacific Rim (2013). His television work is equally impressive, most notably for his parts as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther in the Golden Globe-winning series Luther (2010-2015) and what many consider to be the best drama of the past two decades, HBO's The Wire (2002-2008) as Russell Bell.
What this means for Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston is still unknown, as there were rumors circulating that he would be involved in the project in a similar role .
WITH STAR TREK SLATED TO BEGIN FILMING NEXT MONTH FOR A JULY 2016 RELEASE, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THESE DEVELOPMENTS?
