Could this be the news that all Star Trek fans have been awaiting or dreading?[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

Cast yourselves back about ten years. Before the infamous JJ Trek-reboot began to grace our screens, there were two possible series in the pipeline.

The first was called "Star Trek: The Reboot Series" which had Bryce Zabel (writer, Dark Skies) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5 and The Real Ghostbusters) attached to it, of which the proposal made it online here. However, as mentioned above with JJ Trek now in the mix, this reboot is unfortunately all but obsolete.

The second was entitled "Star Trek: Federation" which wasn't a reboot, but was set far enough into the future following DS9 and Voyager that same major changes could be made. Some of the changes were; Bajor as the space equivalent of Tibet where everyone is a monk, the Vulcans have unified with the Romulans and left the Federation and the Klingons become warrior mystics rather than the blade-obsessed warriors we all know and love. "Federation" was conceived by Geoffrey Thorne (writer, Leverage, Criminal Intent) and conceptualized with Rob Burnett (producer), Bryan Singer (producer, X-Men, House) and Christopher McQuarrie (director, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation).

Fast forward back to the present and rumors have begun circulating that CBS is working on a new Star Trek series, and Singer's name has come up to be involved in "some capacity".

According to Latino Review "CBS is interested in Bryan Singer developing (and Singer reportedly loves Prelude to Axanar) and Federation co-conspirator Chris McQuarrie was still game for the project as of last December, if Twitter is to be believed."

So, in summary, there may be a new series in the works and all indications point more in the direction of Federation, but as always, we will simply have to wait and see.

WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON THIS LATEST TV DEVELOPMENT?

LET US KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW!

Singer was working with Bryan Fuller (voyager) on Federation for a long time, and if you look up the history of that concept, the vulcans left the federation to join the romulans, the klingons went nuts, the cardassians turned into poets, it was a very interested, plausible, but I'm not so sure fan friendly idea. Singer is a hardcore trekkie, his name alone is enough to bring in people aka Joss Whedon with Agents of Shield, and I think his experience in scifi makes him perfect, I'm sure he probably tried for JJ's job for the star trek movies.

If they let the one they've been developing, it will (from what they've spoken about for the better half of the last decade) be in the future, and it will be more a more BSG environment, by that I mean is that there will be a lot of governmental/political stuff included in the space aspect, which I think will be fantastic, that's the one thing star trek has really not put a lot of effort into. And, no offense to Mikey D, Star Trek: Worf always sounded like it would never become a reality.

A new series would be nice, some places are saying this rumour might be another false rumour. The distant future to start a story in the prime timeline is a good area to go, there's nothing to conflict with there, so up for all kinds of freedom of writing. It does still leave up a whole lot of area that would need filling in with other series. There is a lot of room for work, but it seems no one wants to do it.

If the rumored new series had the right names attached to it, I'd say the chances of success would improve dramatically. I also agree that Star Trek:Worf never really had a chance. Everyone loves Worf, but not enough to create an entire series around him. There were many story arcs around his character in TNG and even a few in DS9, so he got ample time in the spotlight as far as I'm concerned.

I'd love to see star trek back on TV. I've been working on a script for tv that I think it would be a good series to show when Picard was in command of the stargazer. I know this is off subject a little but I didn't like JJ Abrams version of star trek for the reboot. Star Trek intro darkness was like a Kahn remake to me. I worry about what he is doing for Star wars 7. I like Star trek more though. WHen Rick Berman did star trek enterprise I thought it was a good concept. Berman had is hands tied because Roddenberry's will has star trek tied up in a nice little bow. The reason for the alternate time lines.

If I missed this somewhere I am quite shocked that it hasn't been brought up before, but has anyone been following Star Trek Renegade?

Is it so hard to create an Enterprise-F to explore the gamma quadrant?

I've been following and it looks very promising, I am looking forward to the full release.

Another project to check out, would be Star Trek: Axanar. Whilst out of the two, I prefer Axanar, they are both good quality productions, and not too long ago the Axanar team relased a short film "Prelude to Axanar" which is on Youtube, link below.

So I would fully recommend on checking out Axanar too, and feel the goosebumps you'll receive - hopefully Cool

Iv'e always liked the idea of Enterprise returning on Netflix. I mean if Netflix can save Daredevil from Ben Affleck, maybe they can save Star Trek from JJ Abrams.

I've watched that Prelude to Axanar so many times it's not funny. Glad to see Gary Graham returning to his role as Ambassador Soval. Can't wait for the movie to be finished.
