Actor best known as Jean-Luc Picard becomes Walter Blunt in new Starz comedy series.

WARNING: Trailer NSFW.

Known more for his authoritarian, commanding presence and serious Shakespearean roles, a new trailer has been released showcasing Stewart's serious comedy chops in Blunt Talk, expected to premier this summer with Starz immediately ordering up two seasons. Mr. Stewart is headlining as Walter Blunt, a former-British Marine-turned-newscaster in America, depicted in the trailer as very much on a downward spiral of debauchery and rather (allegedly) illegal behavior - the kind which may very well mean you never look at the character of Jean-Luc Picard the same way again. You have been warned.

Nevertheless this is certainly a welcome change of pace and highlights Stewart's desire not to be pigeonholed or typecast as a more traditional stage actor, perhaps first endeavoured when - as we all know - in 1987 he became Captain Jean-Luc Picard on the Next Generation, cementing his place among science-fiction fans and Trekkies alike.

In addition the series is being written by Jonathan Ames and produced by Seth MacFarlane, whom some readers may well know has worked with Stewart in the past with a recurring role as Avery Bullock in American Dad!, as well as starring as himself along with the rest of the Next Generation cast in a special episode of Family Guy and narrating the spaghetti-slapstick western A Million Ways to Die in the West.

On the more cinematic scale Stewart has also been busy in the lead of the film Match, where he appears as a dance professor at Julliard interviewed by a seemingly-benign couple as well as an untitled Wolverine sequel currently in post-production slated for a 2017 release.

I liked the trailer and the bold step of Sir Patrick to take on a leading role in a TV series again. Let's see how the series develops.
