Breaking news regarding the unveiling of Star Trek XIII's title.

The new Star Trek sequel taking place in JJ's reboot franchise, and beginning principal filming in June this year has just been announced - Star Trek: Beyond. The name has been registered with the Motion Picture Association of America, a pretty formal step to take and hence unlikely to be a set-up for baseless media conjecture. After some pre-production issues including a new script being drafted and producers dropping out, it's been slated for a July 2016 release. The question is, what will the film go beyond in?

The writer and actor Simon Pegg who portrays Montgomery Scott in the reboot has been talking to the Guardian about the film, stating:

"..and it’s a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it, you know. Where no man has gone before – where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation. But yeah, that’s the mood at the moment.

Finally, according to Deadline actress Sofia Boutella, best known most recently for her role as Gazelle in Kingsman: The Secret Service has been signed and cast in the new film. It's currently unknown what precisely she will portray - only that she is signed for a lead role - but this writer believes it unlikely that she will be wielding deadly legs of steel on the bridge of the Enterprise.

WHAT DO YOU THINK THE FILM WILL 'GO BEYOND' IN?

I can't wait for this movie! I just hope it doesn't go beyond with the lens flares again.

Well JJ isn't directing it, some guy who did Fast and the Furious is (sigh) since JJ's doing Star Wars. This should mean less lens flares. I won't really get excited about it though, the first film was cool for a while before the novelty of a new Trek film wore off then I saw the gaping plot holes. Into Darkness was... awful... I will go watch this new one but I will go in with no expectations of it being a good "Trek" film. Those days seem to have truly died if I'm honest. I just hope with this last film coming out (they were signed for three) we might FINALLY see a decent Star Trek TV show after a 10+ years hiatus.

What, there were star trek movies after nemesis?eek! But to be serious for once, according to what Pegg says this movie has for the first time the chance to do something else than "paying homage" to original ones...

... there is the real travesty...

...actually I'll be honest, I have no idea who she is, and my trip the the IMDB cave didn't help either.

So, is this a good thing? Right now I'm down with Pegg's work, so that's a positive in my book, but then the title gives me pause, so a check in the negative column...

I know the naysayers will hate this, regardless of quality, but I'm really hoping for good trek soon... I'd hate for Baby Kains to know Star Trek as that 'boring old show dad loves."

It'll definitely be interesting to see ST:B since JJ has stepped away from it... but I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

Personally, as long as we get Star Trek films and possibly TV series, I'm fine with it. I'm in it for the story, not the special effects, not the director, not the actors, etc. For me, the story is all that matters, and since this is in the Abramsverse, we really should take it for what it is, a new generation of Trek stories to tell.

I for one is curious as to what else had change because of the events in ST11. In ST12, we were shown how the two timelines are still similar in some way despite the major split in ST11 (destruction of Vulcan). ST13? Bring it on. The events of ST11 not only sent ripples through time, it sent ripples in the whole universe. The Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Empire, all the other planets that are yet to join the Federation. They all know what happened in ST11.

Not to mention, Section31, as we were told in ST12. If they already have S31 this early, then no doubt they have the beginning of DTI (Department of Temporal Investigations) too. Will they discover the Guardian of Forever in this timeline too? What will the Guardian tell them? Will it show the Primeverse?

Think about it. Any time-travel story that they will do that goes in the past _before_ the Abramsverse split, they are sharing with the Primeverse. Any changes or incursions they do might affect the Primeverse.

Time to get excited. Smile Go Beyond my fellow Trekkers!
