Kate Mulgrew has released her memoir this year, called Born with Teeth. It covers huge portions of her professional and personal life - including her time on Voyager, which first aired twenty years ago yesterday - but discounts her more recent work on Netflix's Orange is the New Black. Perhaps saving that story for a different book, but more likely due to the fact that that particular story is not yet complete, with the hit series being renewed for a third and fourth season. At three-hundred and twenty pages Mulgrew recounts her childhood growing up in a big Irish Catholic family, to moving to New York to follow her dream of being an actress. It even includes the deeply personal story of how Mulgrew, at twenty-two, gave her baby daughter up for adoption in favour of her rising career on the stage and in front of the camera.

Among her most known roles, Mulgrew also lended her distinctive voice to the character Flemeth (otherwise known as the Witch of the Wilds) for the Dragon Age video-game series, starting in Dragon Age: Origins continuing through Dragon Age II and Dragon Age: Inquisition. And while she gave every fiber of her being to all of her above portrayals and more, in her book Mulgrew faces her biggest challenge - herself. This is a rare opportunity to find out all you ever wanted to know about one of the five Star Trek Captains, and the only woman to do so to date.

Born with Teeth is available to purchase as Kindle or hardback editions on Amazon.com for our US members, but is still on pre-order for our UK-based members, being slated for a June 25 release. But in addition, you also have the opportunity to hear Mulgrew personally recount her incredible challenges throughout her life - clocking in at nearly ten hours - in the form of an audio download or CD of the stunningly honest yet intelligent memoir.

For further reading, check out an exclusive interview between Mulgrew and StarTrek.com, split into part one and two, respectively.

Nice article, although *wonders whether there is a slight comical tone to the title* Tongue Out.

Making fun of Captain Janeway, me? Never. I wouldn't survive the consequences.

Speaking of which, I urge all our lucky US-based members who've got their hands on the book already to refrain from spoiling it for the rest of us backwards-folk. But do tell us if we should pre-order it!

My wife very briefly met Kate Mulgrew in 2003 at a break in Ms. Mulgrew's portrayal as Katharine Hepburn in "Tea at Five". My wife told her that she was a big ST:V fan & Ms. Mulgrew was very kind & gracious.

That's great to hear Mr. Tholian. Actors especially love it when you've seen them in one portrayal, and then as a result become fans of them personally in everything before or since. Smile

All I wanna know is.....does she talk about the chicken that's smarter than other chicken? She's the only human being that's every 1 shot a borg and a boob implant that I know so, that makes the book title pretty cool.

...um, if that is indeed in the book - and I'm not saying it is - you'll have to buy the book to find out.
