George Takei spent four years in an American internment camp with his mother, father, and two siblings during WWII. Now some 70 years later, Takei is premiering his story,
Allegiance, on Broadway at the Longacre Theater.

It stars Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, and Glee star Telly Leung, as well as Mr. Takei himself.
The production is the story of Sam Kimura (Takei) and his 60 year journey back in time to World War II, where his sister Kei, and himself, try to save their family from the Japanese internment camps.

Takei, unlike many actors of his generation hasn’t acted on broadway before, making this his debut performance at 78 years old. "It feels glorious," Takei told CBS News, "I wish my father were here to see his surname up there on that marquee. I think he would have been very proud. Not only because I'm his son. But it's his story being told."

Since his days as Hikaru Sulu, Takei has continued to act, with one of his more notable roles as Kaito Nakamura in the series Heroes. He has also become a kind of social media savant with roughly 10.36 million followers across Twitter, and 8.6 million Facebook likes, which he recently used to his advantage to promote his show.

Playbill reports the show is scheduled to begin previews Oct. 6 at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street) prior to an official opening Nov. 8. Meanwhile the Allegiance site states the box office opens September 1, so there are numerous chances to see this production. For more information please visit allegiancemusical.com.

I don't mind broadway show/musical but I've been mostly exposed to them here in Toronto. I've heard much about Mr. Takei's show here captures a not so known story of a period in American history during WWII. I've been following Mr. Takei for a while now. All to say he is quite an interesting character. I may well need to look into seeing this production. Thanks again for the report Kraziyk.

You're welcome. I was a bit surprised he hasn't been on Broadway before now, as so many actors of his generation either have or got started there.
