CBS partner up to launch new series of Star Trek internationally.

Today, Netflix have announced that they will be providing the latest Star Trek series internationally, within 24 hours after each episode has been shown in the US via the CBS service. So if you still have a Netflix subscription, this is good news, especially with the development a few weeks back where they acquired the licence to show all of the older series on their platform. This makes Netflix the official home of Star Trek for 188 countries, according to their news on this.
They have also stated that all 727 existing episodes, from TOS to Ent around the world by the end of the year, plenty of time to catch up for the 2017 launch of the new series. This move has made the series more accessible for everyone and should reduce the amount of piracy that would have happened otherwise. While for those in the United States, exclusivity will remain with CBS All Access and not Netflix, possibly to prevent competition between the two in that territory although bad for the consumer. For Canada, it will be CraveTV who will provide the new series, rather than Netflix.
For fans around the world though, this should be a welcomed moved, especially for those who kept their Netflix subscriptions or are willing to sign up for new ones. You can read the full Netflix statement on this move here.
What do you think of this move for international streaming?
Good to know that those of us with Netflix will get the new show, and that it looks like the other series' won't be getting removed any time soon either. Still sucks for the U.S residents who have to go with the CBS All Access version and not Netflix like the rest of us and will have to add another subscription
Welp, that's an interesting move. It's the smart thing, certainly, and it propels Netflix even further I would suspect. (I'm definitely considering switching streaming providers at this point. Between my old one having a very limited selection, and Netflix getting more and more things added to an already pretty great list, "brand loyalty" is waning...)
Should add to this that it'll also be aired in Canada with the premier being on CTV & the rest airing on Space, with all of the franchise TV hours being streamed on Crave.
very happy now, since I was worried I was going to miss out in the new series, I love having netflix since I can watch star trek, have my kiddos enjoy some of the classic ones, and i can take it anywhere!
Netflix was dumb.......errr kind enough to give me another free month. I took it upon myself to just go through TNG and watched most of them but free month ended just yesterday. Basically I get Netflix every 6 months or so for a month - watch a ton of stuff then un-sub cause nothing left to watch lol.
I'd throw money at them to be able to watch new series though, pending it's not already readily available On-Demand (xfinity/comcast).
Awesome news. Not sure why they are waiting / having to wait so long for the old series to be brought online though. Would have been great if I could (re)watch those on Netflix before the new series starts.
Since dropping cable over a year ago, there are very few thing I miss (DIY, local sports, etc.). I have had Netflix for several years now, and I am extremely happy with the added Trek content. That said, I'll still have to get CBS All-Access, grrr. I realize that this is a way for the network to make money, but it is still frustrating. All I can say is the show quality better be better because of it. That would make it worth it.
