Star Trek Discovery Showcased

The ship for the new Star Trek series has been released with mixed reaction.

Not too long ago, we heard about the streaming plan for the new Star Trek series, now we are given a look at the ship, the USS Discovery. The ship design itself certainly raised many eyebrows, with some suggesting it is a cross between a Federation ship and a Klingon ship, while others just can't stand the design at all. Then you have some who like the ship design, or intrigued by it.

Below you can see the underside of the Discovery, which many say looks like the Phase II, which you can see below on the right of the Discovery.

What we do know is that the series is going to be following more of a novel approach and not the traditional one we have seen on TV. This means we might be seeing multiple new ship variations, with this being the first and what we also know is that this is based in the prime universe, so if you don't like the ship, this might still keep your hopes up! One of the other criticisms that have been discussed is the CGI effects used in the trailer (below), first impressions will have an impact on viewership and a trailer needs to encourage.

Having seen the ship design and the trailer for the ship, are you still interested and excited about the series? Or has this changed your mind irreversibly? Remember that the context for this ship is before the Enterpise we see in TOS but after the NX-01, perhaps, some reflections need to be made. Or like the Deferi in STO, take things in balance!

I do think that the saucer of the ship looks nice, I just can't bring myself to like the neck of the ship. It just doesn't seem to work with it, who knows. Maybe it'll grow on me and I hope it does. Seems like it will be a decent series if I can get to like the ship. They've still got a while to go yet until the first episode so maybe they'll make the neck of the ship look prettier.

I think the ship can grow on me although I was a little off put by it at first. Honestly the biggest turn off for this series is the streaming plan for it.

Quick FYI post for anyone who reads this, there is an ongoing discussion thread here with other bits of info and many many ship opinions! lol

As for streaming - yep CBS All Access not the greatest choice, but at least we poor international customers can get it through Netflix. And although that sounds crap for US/Canada fans at least it might go to Netflix US in the future.

I notice a heavy Klingon-ish music theme + Fed-Kling hybrid looking ship. May be a clue to possible stage setting for the story.

They are still going with the subscription plan and now they introduced this "thing". I think I found another reason not to watch.

O'Neill, it is being picked up outside of CBS All Access by other places (Netflix being one of them), so most likely just broadcasted first at CBS All Access and then goes elsewhere in a few months time.

The saucer is the only thing I like about this ship. Otherwise, it is ugly.

At least we got a series. Let's hope the writing and casting is good. Fingers crossed...

I suppose once we start to hear news about casting, we'll get a better idea of what it might become, though there will be some unknown names I suspect.

Very true. I'm hoping by asthetics, it is actually a Fed/KDF ship and that the two sides are working together with it.

Also, Klingon Captain please if this is so. I want the first officer to be Fed just so that the two sides will clash on how things should be handled. At least at first, you know. Also KDF so that we can get some awesome KDFness.

No, no, no... You don't shape your ship like your logo.

If you were smart, you'd design a cube for your ship imo!
