Today, is the official 50th Anniversary of Star Trek, the day we have been waiting for all year, aside from the best sci-fi franchises birthday, the long awaited remastered version of Star Trek: Continuum - a Homeworld Star Trek mod - has been released as a public beta.

For those who are unaware, Homeworld is one of the most advanced and realistic space strategy game ever. It was originally released in 1999, with Homeworld 2 being released 4 years later, which was well ahead of its time by providing an advanced 3-dimensional space for a varied and complex space combat scene. In 2013 THQ (the original owners of the IP) ran into financial difficulty and was sold to SEGA, but the Homeworld IP wasn't included in this thus it was sold to Gearbox software who developed a remastered version of the game, which combined both the first Homeworld and second into one HD version.

The original Homeworld game didn't have the graphical power and advanced engine that would be common nowadays, but was the source of many great space themed mods, including Star Trek Continuum. Since the release of the remastered version modders have been working on making remastered versions of their mods, and with the special day this is the mod creators decided to release an early version of the mod for players to use.

With this being an early version of the mod, it is obviously not finished and is looking actively for feedback about bugs or additions to the mod, but it is definitely worth a go! Out of all Trek mods this is by far the most realistic with highly detailed graphics, including shielding and explosion effects, beautiful warp effects and the only mod which includes phasers moving along the phaser emitters on TNG ships. TNG is not the only era included in this mod though, there is every other era included providing ENT, TOS, TMP and TNG ships for you to construct, command and destroy.
