In what looks like a move to offer a wider range of PC and Console peripherals, Logitech has acquired headphone manufacturer Astro Gaming for $85 million. Astro Gaming's specialism in high-end console headsets fits in nicely with Logitech's mainly PC-based peripherals offerings including keyboards, mice, headsets, speakers, and game pads.

Astro Gaming team members are reportedly joining Logitech's 'G' Gaming division, although both companies will exist separately and retail under their own well-known brands.

In keeping both brands separate (at least for now) it is clear that Logitech believe this it is partly the Astro brand along with their products which is worth $85 million US dollars.

The official statement from Logitech's Vice President and General Manager of Logitech G, Ujesh Desai, is very complementary of Astro and quick to point out the benefits to consumers:
"ASTRO is the leading player for premium console headsets and is the preferred headset for console esports athletes. It's a perfect complement to Logitech G's focus on PC gaming and we couldn't be more excited; we love the team, the brand and the products. Together, we want to make game play even more fun for gamers everywhere."
However Astro's co-Founder and President Jordan Reiss was a little more business-focussed:
"The whole team at ASTRO has always held Logitech and Logitech G products in the highest regard, so I’m ecstatic we are joining forces. ASTRO’s brand strength combined with Logitech G's unrivalled technology and global distribution network is going to bring our products to even more gamers around the world."
This acquisition is expected to close in early August 2017.
