Microsoft Paint Coming to an End

Microsoft plan to remove Paint from the list of Windows 10 features, marking an end to the program.

Paint has been a staple program of the Windows operating system from 1985 to present day, but Microsoft have announced that they are going to be removing paint from the Windows 10 feature list. They have said that Paint 3D will still be supported, however I've not heard much about Paint 3D other than the one time I used it.

Removing features from the operating system will make it more lightweight and possibly save some development time when it comes to making patches, it's less they have to worry about. However, it has become a very iconic piece of software, some people have used it to make some wonderful pieces of art, while others have created memes that held a lot of popularity.

There are other programs that mimic the tools of Paint, even web based, but will they ever replace such an iconic piece of software? Mike Dailly tweeted that he believes "They should just release the source and make if public domain", could we then see a Paint Classic™ if this happens?

I for one will mourn the loss Paint, mostly because I used it to quickly save screenshots, but I did also use it to make some terrible drawings and awful tactical maps! And how could anyone forget the epic signature our very own Noram once had? All because of Paint.

You will be missed!

Awww... I'm truly going to miss it as I used it for quick little edits and such that I only wanted to spend less than 3 seconds on.

Photoshop is great and all, but for a 3-second hack... MS Paint was the best!

We're safe!

Microsoft has confirmed that it will continue to offer its graphics program Paint.
In a recent update, it had listed Paint as a feature that would be either removed or no longer developed.
Paint, renowned for its simplicity, has been part of the Windows operating system since its launch in 1985.
Microsoft suggested it would not remain on Windows 10 by default but did confirm it would be available for free on the Windows Store.
Its successor, Paint 3D, will be part of the Windows 10 package.

I am a Mac user now and I use Preview for my quick edits (like @Silynn mentioned) and Photoshop for big stuff. Paint serves that same purpose for Windows and it would be a shame to lose that. An alternative for me when I was on Windows was Paint.NET, which was kind of a happy medium between Paint and PS. *shrug*

Not quite, the Windows Store is terrible!

Not quite, the Windows Store is terrible!
I will attest to this, especially for programs that used to be stand-alone apps. Most recent example would be Skype. I use it nearly every day to maintain my business as well as communication with friends and associates. When Micro$oft purchased Skype's parent company and absorbed it into Windows 10 (both via the app store and inside of MS Edge), there were issues involving message delivery. I always click "Not Now" when Skype starts to nag me to migrate from the standalone app.

tl;dr - The Windows Store is indeed terrible. Smile
