Spock and Pike Feature in Discovery Season 2

We will also see Jonathan Frakes return as a director for one of the episodes!

It has been announced that filming has begun on the second season of Star Trek: Discovery. A few details have emerged surrounding some of the upcoming season, which can be assumed to be aired on the same platforms as the first at this moment in time. From what is known so far, there will be flashback scenes involving a young Spock, and a young Burnham. It still remains somewhat difficult to understand why there was a need for force a relationship between a Discovery character and Spock, perhaps the writing in the upcoming season will give some more background.

The actor for young Spock has not yet been revealed, however we do know that Anson Mount will be playing Captain Pike. Ansons recent acting work involves Hell on Wheels and Inhumans, I have personally not seen either, but time will tell to see if he fits into the role of Pike. We also know that Jonathan Frakes will be directing atleast one episode in the second season, he wished the cast well with the filming over Twitter.

We will no doubt find out more in time, and there will be plenty of speculation leading upto the release of Discovery's second season. One such point of speculation is if Dr Hugh Culber will play a part, as it has been mentioned by the actor who plays him, Wilson Cruz, that he has struggled in getting to Toronto, where the series is filmed. So maybe more network scenes with Stamets, or he manages to rise from the dead! That'd be a neat trick.

But speculation aside, who will be following the next season? And don't forget, you can discuss many topics around Discovery on our forum here.

I can't wait to see Captain Pike, I would rather not have another portrayal of Spock. Not yet at least. And even though I was really moved when I saw the disco version of the Enterprise, I just feel like this can go wrong in so many ways. I love the reboots and Disco. I'm very proud of them as an avid fan. IDK.

I don't mind Pike showing up but Spock...I don't know how I feel about that like Deltron said there's so many ways that could go wrong, assuming it's a more adult Spock. If it's child Spock in flashbacks and not adult Spock then that's different but if it's a different actor or a CGI Leonard Nemoy or something I don't know, we'll have to see. It's risky considering this is the Prime Universe some people are already like "It's bad enough Spock suddenly has this adoptive sister that evidently he, Sarek and everybody else kept quiet all through TOS and TNG." So if they mess that up...it'll be interesting. Cool that Frakes will be back to direct again though.

Defidently something I am looking forward to.

I do have a problem though with Spock and Pike appearing during Star Trek Discovery, it depends if they are just there as a service to the TOS fans for an episode but if they are constantly featured I do believe they will take all the attention and kind of 'Steal the spotlight' instead of focusing on the main cast.

Certainly looking forward to seeing more of the Discoprise, its pretty fateful to the old design and good looking. Seeing Pike in action will be interesting as well.

But like it has been said, this whole...Burnham is Spock's adoptive sister that has never been mentioned anywhere in any movie or series by anyone just irks me. It just screams of bad fan-fiction writing and hopefully is contained to as few episodes as possible.

The "Discoprise" reminded me of the Phase 2 Enterprise
