Nichelle Nichols, who is best known for her role in the Original Series as Lt. Uhura is reported to be suffering from dementia. She has been using a wheelchair recently as well, so this news only adds to her health issues. All of these could relate to the stoke, which she suffered back in 2015.

On Friday, her son, Kyle Johnson, filed papers to the courts for four nominated fiduciaries to become her conservators. This means that the nominated people would have control over financial, and health issues for Nichelle Nichols. Mr Johnson said this action was needed because the dementia is "impacting her executive functioning" which can make her "“susceptible to undue influence.", he then went on to add "Certain individuals have unduly exerted themselves into Ms. Nichols’ life ‘to her detriment."

She has continued to be active in the work she does, and is likley to continue. There are three projects reported to be coming out this year which Nichols has worked on. I also remember seeing her name as a panel appearance at last years London ComicCon, so despite her health, she continues to do what she loves.

Such a shame for one of Star Treks most memorable characters.
