Modiphius have recently announced a starter set for their Star Trek RPG. This means that for people who have interest in trying the game, but might feel a bit intimidated by the price, or rules, the starter set has a number of advantages for those people to get them into the game. It also means they have a chance to learn the rules, and if they have a creative mind, they can for their own stories.

So what is in the pack? Below is a list of everything that comes in the set.

Starter Rules booklet: Giving you an overview of the 2d20 system.
A Three-Mission Campaign Booklet: That guides you through the game mechanics as you play.
6 Pre-Generated Character Sheets: Including 5 Starfleet officers and 1 Galaxy-class vessel.
Dice: 2 twenty-sided dice (d20s) an 4 custom six-sided dice (d6s).
Tokens: Tokens for Momentum, Threat and characters.
Poster Maps: For locations in the campaign.

This simple set will give you everything that should be needed to learn the game, with the pre-generated characters, you will get an idea of how they work/play, and getting new ones is free on their website. This means there is a good set of tools to get started, and the price comes at £20. You can find the starter set here on their website, for pre-order. The release is set for November 2018, and the print quality is no doubt going to be as good as other Modiphius products.

What are you thoughts, would a starter set get you into the game?

Looks like a good starter set for trying this out with your own player group if nobody is a GM yet and has the full rules.
Having said that, if you're ok with just a digital copy, the PDF of the complete rulebook is only 11.99 GBP / 13.99 EUR, so would make for a better buy for new players that want to join a game run by someone else and is in fact all you need to participate in the UFP run event that just started.

Indeed, the downside to getting the PDF rulebook is that you don't get any of the dice, or other nice little goodies. Some of the stuff that comes with the starter set really looks like it could help someone get their head around the game. If you already have experience with roleplay games, then the PDF rulebook is probably a better proposition!

If you get the PDF through Drivethru RPG, they give you a printer friendly version that you can have printed out. Smile

I think you get a printer friendly version from Modiphius too, I have two options of the rulebook from my Borg Cube set, the normal one and the printer friendly one, as well as the physical one obviously!
