As part of our celebration of Deep Space 9 and the release of the new STO expansion, we are going to take a look at some of the iconic areas of the station. The first one, Quark's bar, well known by many in the Star Trek universe, and of course, the fans. Quark's has also appeared in The Next Generation, and Voyager, this is also the location where Sisko punched Q, in the only DS9 episode to feature the omnipotent being.

So you can walk in from the top, or bottom and walk out, just as has been shown in the show, although I won't be covering the STO version, they have tried to make it more true to the onscreen version.

Within Quark's, there is a lot on offer for patrons who stop by, with business conducted in Gold Pressed Latinum, so the purchase of drinks, renting a holosuite or having a spin on the Dabo table for example. Although, the bar has seen live music performed, and other occasional events. The area is also well known for hearing the latest gossip, and is possibly one of the busiest recreational areas of the station.

The food on offer is wide ranging, given that there is access to a replicator, that's not too surprising, however some of the drinks on offer are sometime fresh from bottles, or from a private collection of drinks. One of these is Aldebaran whiskey, which Quark once found an empty bottle of in his brother Rom's room. In addition, Quark is also known to provide catering for events, and meetings aboard Deep Space 9.

For entertainment, I mentioned the Dabo table previously, which attracts a large number of patrons to it, and the sound is distinctive in the ambient noise of the bar. Additional to this would be betting pools that are sometimes run by Quark, until Kira made betting pools illegal in 2375, after taking command of the station.

Quark's bar has certainly also had a rough, and troubled past, during the Cardassian rule, it was not as bright or colourful as it became under Starfleets running of the station. Quark also violated Ferengi law at one point, resulting in his business license being revoked, and losing everything in the bar, although he found a way around this thanks to his friends, but went into arms dealing to pay off his debts and get his licence back.

Many great episodes had some strong points with Quark's bar playing a significant role, what were some of your favourite moments with Quark's bar?

They really out did them selves with the update, really great work.

My favorite memories had to be of O'Brian and Bashir regularly hanging out there, be it playing darts, using the holo-suite or just chatting over a pint.
