Age of Wonders is a series of strategy games that were developed by Triumph Studios since 1999, usually taking place in a world of high fantasy. In 2017, Paradox Interactive had acquired the studio, and are now the publishers for the upcoming game, Age of Wonders: Planetfall, which takes the series away from high fantasy, and into science fiction. This is a departure from the games roots, which has its own fanbase, and their previous Age of Wonders game, before being acquired by Paradox, had a positive reception, showing there was still an audience for the high fantasy setting.

Quoted on Eurogamer, the Triumph boss Lennart Sas said "While the setting is new, we're confident that Age of Wonders fans will feel right at home exploring the remnants of the Star Union." and that said, he also when on to say that it "still employs the core principles that made Age of Wonders such a success." which might keep some of the older fans of the series happy, and attract some newer ones who are interested in the new setting. Although, there will be some who are diehard high fantasy fans, who will no doubt be giving this title a miss.

The setting of the game itself puts you in a dark age of a fallen galactic empire, the Steam page for the game also states that there will be a deep single player campaign, and among the features listed, you have Planetary Empire Building and Multiple Paths to Victory, which will no doubt add many hours of replayability for anyone who is really into this kind of thing, like I am, for example! So long as you can assimilate everyone...

You can find the main page here and the Steam page here, and with all that said, does the game look of interest to you? Have you played any of the Age of Wonders games before?
