Today CBS announced that Star Trek Discovery has been renewed for a third season. There is no word yet on how many episodes will be approved for Season 3 nor any hint of when Season 3 will premiere.

It is likely that Season 3 of Discovery will still be locked to the CBS All Access subscription model for the forseeable future due to the massive subscriber boom that Discovery brings the service.

With Season 3 also brings a new co-showrunner in Michelle Paradise, known for previously being a co-executive producer on the CW series "The Originals" as well as writing for the series Rogue on the network, the Audience.

Alex Kurtzman, whom Michelle Paradise will be sharing the role with for Season 3 onwards had this to say about her new role. Michelle joined us midway through season two and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of Trek, Kurtzman said. Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I’m proud to say Michelle and I are officially running Star Trek: Discovery.

There is no telling yet where Season 2 of Discovery will leave us, but if it is anything like Season 1, which for a recap left us wondering what was going to happen to the Enterprise, it should certainly be exciting!

Possibly because opinion of series 2 is quite positive so far, compared to series 1?

Personally speaking, I don't prefer either series 1 or 2, but chances are, it's still making them money, so renewing it makes sense.
