Chateau Picard Becomes a Reality

The fictional Star Trek wine becomes a reality, to American customers.

Those living in America will be able to reserve their very own bottle of Chateau Picard, which became known in the Star Trek universe as the wine made at the Picard family vineyards. The real life variation that has been created in a limited amount, is from the Saint-Estèphe region in France, and are priced at $60 per bottle. These bottles are numbered, and you can have them around just as a collection peice, or to drink as well.

Another Star Trek themed wine was released as well, this is the Federation Special Reserve, which is an Old Vine Zinfandel. The grapes for this wine have been grown in California, and this wine comes in at $50. You can read the tasting notes, and even order these wines on the website Star Trek Wines.

The launch of these two wines possibly indicates an interest it expanding Star Trek themed wines, depending on the interest gathered. Perhaps in future, they may also ship globally, but that will best past the time of this first run of the Chateau Picard.

As I will not be able to sample either of these wines, I can't give any experience on how it tastes, from a glance however, it does appear that much of the price is for the naming, and not the wine. Is this a bad thing? Depends on why you are buying the wine, it makes a great talking peice, and the bottle on it's own can be a nice addition to any decoration around your home. If you just want a good wine, there are cheaper options open to you.

Interesting, If I could buy one it would just be to have the conversation piece and not for the liquid inside.
