Cyberpunk 2077 Post-Launch Multiplayer

The multiplayer question about Cyberpunk 2077 is still very much on the table, and up in the air.

Cyberpunk 2077 is possibly one of the most anticipated games coming out next year, and there is still a fair amount of hype behind it, but when it launches next year, it will be set to be single player only. This is something Sasko from CD Projekt has been very clear about in an interview with Eurogamer, when asked a question about multiplayer, Saskos response was "We're not really working on multiplayer, our sole focus is single-player." but did not rule it out as a future possibility, going on to say "If something does happen it will definitely be post-launch".

There is a small team working on the multiplayer aspect of the game, however this is still in the R&D stage, according to senior concept artist Marthe Jonkers, where there was no pressure to force something into the game that isn't part of the original vision. Jonkers told Eurogamer that "It doesn't mean we're saying no multiplayer, but it doesn't mean we're saying yes either.", which means there will be no chance of multiplayer on launch, but down the line, it could be a possibility, but not a guarantee.

CD Projekt want to get the game right, and immerse players into the universe, if muliplayer can't offer the same level of immersion, they are not going to add it, as they see this as being super important. Jonkers did also tell Eurogamer that they "would never make anything that's not at least The Witcher standard for Cyberpunk. I don't know what the future holds but we will make sure everything we make will be high quality.".

Does the fact of Cyberpunk 2077 not having multiplayer at launch change any of your views on the game? Please let us know by leaving a comment.

It would be impossible for me to care any less about multiplayer in CP2077.
In fact, I hope absolutely no resources were diverted towards that end.

It's a RPG, not a FPS.

(I'm not against multiplayer, I'll be playing Borderlands 3 with my friends, and currently we play EDF 5 an average of an hour a day. Those aren't the same genre as CP2077 or Witcher 3, though.)

Having played some of The Witcher 3, I enjoyed it, though I didn't think it would really have been a game for me, the story was great, and I got pulled into the world, I do hope that the same will be true for Cyberpunk, just like you, I don't care much for any multiplayer in it, it's all about the story!

They did put a small team onto the idea of multiplayer, but it's not something they are activly looking to develop, just research the posibility. I can see Cyberpunk working as a coop mulitplayer, maybe a small party, because it is based on a tabletop roleplay game, but then you fall into the realm of having to have a custom character, which can subtract from the story.

Single player is good enough for me for Cyberpunk 2077. after all you're an Edgerunner in that game and you live it solo, party hard, die young and leave a pretty corpse Smile

Been confirmed that post-launch multiplayer is definitely happening after all, but not until after the single player DLC: source

Zero interest in competitive multiplayer for a game like CP. However, if it's co-op that plays similarly to Mass Effect 3 MP, I'd prefer that. If they did go that route, successful missions could have some beneficial effect on the single-player game similar to ME3. Maybe cool, but entirely optional things like unlocking special weapons, cyber upgrades, and vehicle enhancements.

That's fine so long as it's not exclusive gear or upgrades.

IIRC, ME3's multiplayer was mandatory to get a sufficient power rating to unlock the "best" ending option.

I would prefer that it not have multiplayer at launch as I feel it would detract from the finished product. As others have said, it's a RPG not a FPS...
