The Star Trek world woke up this morning to the sad news that Aron Eisenberg, the actor behind the lobes of Nog the Ferengi petty-thief-turned-Starfleet-Officer in Deep Space Nine, has passed away at the age of 50.

Born to a Jewish family on 6th January 1969 in Hollywood, California. He arrived in this world with only one functioning kidney, which ultimately failed when he was fourteen. This life-limiting condition was the reason he only reached five feet in height. He received his first kidney transplant at the age of seventeen. In August 2015 he was once again diagnosed with kidney failure and on 29th December 2015, he received a second kidney transplant.

Aron appeared in several TV shows and movies including Tales From The Crypt, Amityville: The Evil Escapes, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, The Wonder Years and General Hospital. He had a repeating guest star role in the ‘90s TV series The Secret World of Alex Mack. He was also seen on stage in theatre productions such as The Indian Wants The Bronx, Minor Demons and On Borrowed Time. He occasionally directed for the theatre as well.

Eisenberg in Star Trek: Voyager.

He is best known, however, for his portrayal of Nog, son of Rom and nephew of Quark, in 47 episodes of Deep Space Nine between 1993 and 1999. He also guest-starred as a Kazon youth, called Kar, in an episode of Voyager called "Initiations". He was a regular guest at Star Trek conventions; I had the pleasure of meeting him at DST Birmingham in 2018; he was utterly charming and his loss means the world of Star Trek has lost one of its brightest lights. He is survived by his wife, actress Malissa Longo, and his two sons, Christopher and Nicholas. Our thoughts are with them at this desperately sad and difficult time.

His wife announced Eisenberg's passing in the early hours of September 22nd.

There is a discussion thread HERE regarding the passing of Aron Eisenberg.

The UFPlanets news team is saddened to hear about the passing of Aron Eisenberg and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

One of those articles you hope you never have to work on. Going to be watching DS9 again because of this, massive condolences to his family and friends.

I met him at a few of the ST: LV conventions, his portrayal of Nog after he was injured helped me get through my own injury from my time in Afghanistan. I thanked him for it, from our few short conversations he seemed like a very down to Earth individual, a rarity for Hollywood. He will be missed.

This is indeed sad news, the development of Nog as a character through DS9 was really good, and additionally, we will always have his memory in Star Trek Online as well, I believe he got to voice Nog there too. May he rest in peace among the stars!

Nice, albeit sad, to see that this tribute will happen:
