Elite is a science fiction space combat simulator that was created by David Braben and Ian Bell that was released on September 1984 and was among the first of its genre. Elite Dangerous is the modern culmination of all the Elite games before it spanning from the original Elite in which the universe and lore was established, to the game Frontier Elite II which introduced Newtonian Physics into the genre.
Elite for the BBC Micro.Elite Dangerous is a love letter to the fans of the original elite games or other games of its genre and has been readily available to Commanders (Players) since December of 2014 for PC and was then released on other platforms such as, macOS and Xbox one in the following year, October 2015 and finally PS4 on 27 June 2017. The game has constantly evolving graphics, a rich lore and backstory and offers a diverse amount of activities as it is a non-linear sandbox galaxy for players to forge their own paths in. It offers a truly humbling amount of stars, planets, space stations, resources and totes a detailed in-game system for discovering these things. The latest incarnation of Elite also supports a Massive Multiplayer Online environment in which players can Explore with, Trade with or engage in Combat with other players.
Whether you want to join a deep space research team and frame shift jump between worlds or go around collecting bounties and policing systems or you could look at the other side of that particular coin and be an assassin or pirate. The game has a detailed system energy and weight mechanic in which you need to be aware of the space available in your ship or of the power available, as you can setup your vessel in a way that your reactor (or power plant) will fail to power everything and if you go to fire a weapon in this state, the results would likely be unfavourable more so if you forget to refuel at your last stop before a long trip.
The Drake, the Fleet Carrier entering Elite this April. It has also introduced just a few years ago, the ability to seamlessly traverse from space into a planets atmosphere, land and drive around a planets surface in a small vehicle with wheels. In its expansion “Horizons”And the game is still evolving as its ability to allow more than one player on a multi-crew vessel was introduced a short time ago and adding something to further multiplayer cooperative game play as they introduce “Fleet Carriers” with Fleet Carriers more players can work together towards a common goal as the Fleet Carrier centralises a groups resources, can jump to new areas and allow the group to reach their common goals or bring them together in arms as they protect their fleet carrier or assaults others. Fleet Carriers will be entering the beta on PC April 7th, with a full release sometime in June this year.
An announcement has been made that another expansion pack will be released soon and although pure speculation at this time, there are rumours Elite Dangerous could have first person movement for the character, independent of their vessel. If achieved this would put Elite ahead of the curve in its genre as its current opponents such as Star Citizen have worked on this ability from the beginning whereas Elite has focused on creating other game functions that it could be considered as having approached the same goal as Star Citizen but from a completely different direction.
You can find Elite Dangerous on Steam during a very short flash sale for 75% off at the discounted price of $5.16 USD for the base game but I highly recommend paying $10.60USD for the “Commander Deluxe Package” which includes the Horizons Expansion Pack which allow landing on planets and using the planet vehicle. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3...ite_Dangerous/
I'm not too sure about the first person vessel movement rumours as that's been on the Dev to do list for ages now, but other than that, yes this is a terrific game!
