Victoria 3 Announced

Paradox has announced the latest iteration of Victoria

Paradox Interactive has been known as one of the big players in the grand strategy arena after putting out games such as Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings and Hearts of Iron. Each of their games isn’t an identical clone to the others however, and while there are similarities, there are also large differences.

Crusader Kings 3, for example is almost akin to a Grand Strategy game mixed with an RPG title as well, as you try and mold the leaders and country to your whim. Hearts of Iron however only lets you choose your form of government and leaders to a degree.

Another of their major titles is Victoria, which hasn’t seen a major release since 2010 and a new DLC since 2013, which has disappointed its fans. The second iteration of this game takes place between 1836 and 1936 which places it nicely between Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron in terms of the “timeline”.

Paradox has recently announced that they’re going to be making a third game, although it is debatable how much this has been forced by the fans. There was a petition a couple of years ago, but fans have been making this request on the Paradox forums since at least Victoria2013.

It appears to be using the Clausewitz engine which has been used for a lot of Paradox’s most recent games, although from the screenshots and details available seems to be taking some inspiration from the other more recent titles.

It will be interesting to see how they meld items such as the first world war into the game or whether this will be missing from the game.
Overall, it does come down to the player how they want to play their empire.

There’s currently no release date, but they have started to release their dev diaries. You can read it here.

This is something that will be followed closely during its development and nearer the release? I’ll share further details as they become available.

Are you looking forward to this release? Have you played the original Victoria games? Let us know in the comments below.

If it's dumbed down, that'll be a benefit to me, I never got the hang of Victoria 2!
