It has been called one of the best Star Trek movies ever made, but Galaxy Quest was anything but a hit when it released in 1999.

From the writing room drama and director Harold Ramis quitting the production in protest of its leading man, to the profound change in tone after filming had completed, Galaxy Quest cemented itself in the storied history of Star Trek lore and Hollywood legend.

As it happened, the passing years allowed the movie to escape its target audiences and as more and more people became exposed to it, a greater appreciation for the work began to appear, ultimately ending in the cult status it currently enjoys today. As its popularity GeorgiaPritchett

grew, the calls for a sequel did not go unheard from the studio and there were rumors of something being put together as early as 2010. While fans hoped that there may be something in the works, the death of Galaxy Quest alum and legendary actor Alan Rickman seemed to close the book on any projects that may have been active.

Speaking to Nerdist Podcast in 2016 Sam Rockwell said, “They were going to do a sequel on Amazon. We were ready to sign up, and Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn’t available, he has a show; and everybody’s schedule was all weird. It was going to shoot, like, right now. And how do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That’s a hard void to fill.”

While a push in 2018 gave some fans some hope, it was Sigourney Weaver talking to Collider in March of this year that grabbed their attention. While giving an interview about her upcoming film, My Salinger Year, she digressed giving some insight into the IP's plans.

Weaver told them, “The movie was so witty, and when they released it, DreamWorks cut a lot of the wittiest scenes because they wanted to put it out as a children’s movie at Christmas. I think that was disappointing for everybody, so he decided not to let them have the second one. However, it was about four years ago, Bob and Mark Johnson and the whole group, started to develop a series. We lost the wonderful Alan Rickman unexpectedly, so that was put in mothballs, but I think they are finally now reviving it.'

While it may not have given any details on a specific project, Weavers comments were more than enough to get fans speculating, and keeping their eyes peeled for anymore news of a revival. Last Tuesday, they were rewarded.

Talking to The Times, Georgia Pritchett announced that she was working on a Galaxy Quest television series with Simon Pegg.

It was more a digression from the topic at hand, and so it might be forgiven that the interviewer, Dominic Maxwell, didn't immediately change focus and ask her everything that we wanted to know, but unfortunately, we are left with only this bit of information. To most it would appear that a Galaxy Quest project is currently in development with AAA Hollywood power brokers already attached, but this was the only time she spoke on the subject, and those who would like to see this come through, have nothing more than her word and a whole lotta hope.

For now, that will have to be enough.

I agree that Alan Ruckman's passing is going to make capturing the vibe and atmosphere of the movie difficult. It might be best not to depend too much on the old cast in general, but the concept is sound. There's several different ways anything new can build on the foundation of the movie. I think the best way to go would be to focus on the fans that helped in the end and see how they're doing this many years down the line, and then get them in contact with the Thermians somehow.
But anyways.... Bottom line is that Galaxy Quest as an ip certainly deserves a future.

I believe you're combining Alan Rickman and Alan Ruck. Alan Ruck played Captain John Harriman in ST:Generations.

While doing research, I read that in 2018, one version of the sequel would have replaced Alan Rickman's character, Sir Alexander Dane, with the character's son, Alexander Dane Jr. If you were gonna do that...I hate to say it, but Zachary Quinto comes to mind as an able heir to the character.

I'm definitely wanting to know more about this! Instead of focusing on what they can't do, I'll be looking for what they can do!

Best quote anyone can relate to: "Look! I have one job on this lousy ship, it's *stupid*, but I'm gonna do it! Okay?"

2nd best: "Alex, where are you going? ... To see if there's a pub!"

Best quote that could be taken waaaay out of context: "Energize me, Fred!"

God, I love that movie. I've got it on one or more of my many hard drives lying around my work-room. HD, FHD, DVD-R ISO... you name it, I got it. I just wish I could find a version with the cast and crew commentary. I love listening to how folks made movies I like. Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs, North by Northwest, It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, you name it,

I can't wait to see what they do with it. If they play it straight and true, it should be a gas.

Wait! My bad! The line is "Digitize me, Fred!" Sorry, that screws up the attempt at humor. I believe I'm due 20 lashes with a wet tribble.

Oh, and another thing! My favorite cast quote is from Sigourney Weaver "Every time I put on that blond wig I could feel my I.Q. drop precipitously."
