How has the recently finished Terran Arc added to Star Trek Online and the player Experience

Disclaimer: This will contain spoilers for the Terran Gambit Arc of Star Trek Online
Note: I play Star Trek Online on PlayStation which has only just received the end to this story line and has different bugs than the PC. Because of this I will not be commenting on any specific about the bugs or similar and just how fun I find each mission and TFO to play as well as how I found the overall storyline.

Now we have finally reached the end of these story concerning the lovely Terran Universe I thought it we would have a look back at the past 4 seasons and what they added to Star Trek Online. Firstly the obvious ones are the 6 new missions and 4 new TFO’s and 3 new patrols. Two TFO’s were also revamped to fit in better with the new Storyline adding to number of TFO’s associated with these seasons. Although at some point almost all of these has a big bug of some kind and people have found some are far easier to get their event points with all of them are pretty fun to play and work well in the storyline.

The reward for the missions will get you a selection of ground weapons, a new ground support and some space weapons to help you and costumes. For those of us lucky enough to play along with the release of these missions and fill out the event with daily progress we got 4 new ships, A Mirror Janeway Bridge Officer and a Full set of ground weapons, armour and abilities from the events that have occurred during the course of this arc.

The Terran Gambit follows increasing incursions of Terran Universe fleets in order to gain more power for Emperor Crusher allowing him to take over the Prime Universe using the Power of the Mirror V'ger, C'qer or Conqueror VI. The mirror version is virtually identical to its prime counterpart but the probe at the centre was called Conqueror instead of Voyager.

I mostly enjoyed my time playing the story missions which I feel that overall have a good mix between space and ground battles with well-planned out final battles that were almost always lots of fun to try and work out. The cut scenes look good and it’s nice to get more Star Trek actors in STO, I would like to give a shoutout to Will Wheaton who sounds great especially in Fujiwara Effect.

The missions involving the Inquisitor (Mirror version of yourself) are a bit weird as you lose all your gear which I would prefer not to as it’s pretty much always worse for the situation on hand and having what looks almost like your character having voice actors got some getting used to but was fine after awhile but they do work well in relation to the storyline and add a healthy challenge.

The TFO’s are mostly good but when trying to get my daily progress I mainly played the Iuppiter Iratus ,as I know quite a few others did because it was just the easiest to knock out. I did play all the other Task Force Operations though and they are fun, apart from the end of Bird Cage with Jackson and Johnson who I found a real pain to try to defeat with my team but that might just be my gear and my team’s gear. Operation Wolf and Storm Chasers are pretty good ground missions which I don’t mind playing although I prefer space gameplay myself.

A memorable moment for me was in the mission The Fujiwhara Effect where you fight the Terrans around Earth Space Dock with C’qer and V’ger fighting each other. Having the normal amount of ships around ESD as you see in the social hub but with everyone fighting each other and the multiple different fleets with their different types is ships was a really fun fight to see and I wish there were more battles in social zones like this, or just a free for all version of ESD to do this.

How did you find the Terran Gambit Arc, Did you enjoy it? Where do you want to see STO go next?. Let us know in the comments below!

I found the missions themselves to be quality but too long for my taste, especially if you're expected to play them more than once. I'm also disappointed that I took a year off and came back and the story was just wrapping up, it's taking too long to make these missions and story arcs.

I think the length was a key issue here in regards to wanting to revisit them. I played through each mission once on either day 1 or 2 of the event and didn't revisit them until I started this article. As I said in the article they are all enjoyable on there own but not so much as an easily replay-able storyline. As for how long stuff takes to release I can't really comment on it as this is the first storyline I have been active for the entirety of it but I don't mind it too much.

I thought some of the ideas introduced in the arc were interesting, but the execution of some of those ideas were maybe lacking. We saw some decent new TFOs and patrols and some great new artwork like Jupiter Station and the new Oddy bridge, and lots of voice talent this time around. On the other hand, while the idea of our mirror self was cool and the robovoice was a clever add, they really need to come up with some sort of power scaling system for these "play as NPC" missions for those of us who play something other than just Normal difficulty. Also, the whole Mirror Universe bit has gotten pretty worn out at this point. It is a fun idea when used sparingly like was done in the TV shows, but I for one am pretty burned out on it at this point and looking forward to the next story arc.

I agree with this as well as what Mentioned User Ravensplat was saying. I think it may have just been an excuse to come out with a bunch of mirror ships to sell, since they're running out of ideas at this point.

It was okayish, but to be fully honest, it just doesn't feel like Star Trek anymore. Mirror universe again with some very bad to decent writing, only nice thing was that mirror Tilly was killed (Thank god).
At this point I just wish they would bring back good old missions who felt much more like trek, such as: Rapier, State of Q, Tribble with Klingons, Past Imperfect, City on the Edge of Forever... Hell even Cage of Fire was decent, although buggy as hell.
STO lost alot compared to the old days, one of them was the good missions with good to amazing writing. Only thing that improved along the time was graphics and that's it...
