Watch out K-pop fans! A new technologically advanced K-pop group is taking the world by storm.

Mave: which is a virtual K-pop girl group by Metaverse Entertainment, debuted on January 25th 2023 with the single album "Pandora's Box". The group has performed virtually on music shows such as "Music Bank" which is aired on the broadcasting station KBS, and "Show! Music Core" which airs on another broadcaster called MBC.

The virtual members of Mave: which are CGI avatars are named "Siu", "Zena", "Marty" and "Tyra". Not only is CGI used to create them, but also deepfake techniques. The concept of Mave is four children of nature who crash land on earth in 2023 in search of emotional freedom.
It is unclear who are providing the voices, as such no information related to voice providers has been provided to this day.

But who are really behind this musical phenomenon? According to https://kpop.fandom.com. Metaverse Entertainment was founded in 2021 as a subsidiary of the company NetMarble F&C which that company is itself a subsidiary of NetMarble Corporation. NetMarble Corporation is the second largest shareholder of HYBE Labels, who is home to artists like BTS.

Metaverse Entertainment's primary focus is digital human development and virtual idol management. The company is based in the Seongdong-gu district of Seoul. The company first created and produced the virtual influencer "RINA" in 2022.
Music produced by Metaverse Entertainment is distributed by another company, Kakao Entertainment which is a subsidiary of South Korean tech giant Kakao; which is known for the popular social networking app "Kakao Talk".

The virtual K-pop group also dances to the music, with such precision just like human dancers. There is an official choreography video posted onto YouTube, however it is with real-life people. Important note: the avatars are programmed to speak English, Korean, French and Indonesian.

What's next for virtual singers and idols alike? It is unclear right now if Mave: will release another album. For now, patience is key.
Virtual singers have been around for a long time prior to Mave: such as Hatsune Miku, who was a Japanese-language character voice created by Crypton Future Media on the Vocaloid software programs. Hatsune Miku even performed at concerts all over the world using holographic technology.

Another important note to add is that a real-life K-pop girl group; Aespa which is under SM Entertainment has a similar concept. In the group's music videos, virtual avatars called "AE" stand with the members. SM Entertainment has plans to unveil Naevis, who is a character in Aespa's storyline as a virtual singer in the coming months.
