Have you ever heard of the Japanese anime Detective Conan? The show is popular in Japan as well as other countries. However in countries like the USA the show is usually called Case Closed due to copyright issues.

Detective Conan started out as a detective manga (comic book) series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. The manga has been serialized in the Shonen manga magazine "Weekly Shonen Sunday" since 1994.
The manga was eventually adapted into an anime television series by Yomirui Telecasting Corporation and Tokyo Movie Shinsha/TMS Entertainment. Detective Conan had its television premiere in January 1996.

In 2003, Funimation licensed the anime for North American broadcast on the Toonami block on Adult Swim. The show was dubbed into English and the majority of the characters were given Americanized names.

But what is the plot about? Here is a general overview of the plot:
Shinichi Kudo (Known as Jimmy Kudo in the Funimation dub), is a high school detective. He will occasionally work with the police to solve cases.
During an investigation into a shady business deal at an amusement park he is ambushed by a member of the Black Organization, which is a crime syndicate.
These shady people in black force feed him an experimental poison called Apotoxin 4869, but instead of killing him the poison shrinks his body into the size of an elementary school child. After that, he adapts the alias "Conan Edogawa" and decides to keep his true identity a secret.

Conan (formerly Shinichi), lives with his childhood friend Ran Mori, and her father Kogoro Mori who is a private detective. He tags along on Kogoro's cases but Conan solves the case using a few gadgets Professor Agasa made for him.
Detective Conan has a bow tie that is able to emulate other people's voices when he speaks into it, a watch that holds tranquilizer darts (That he uses to sedate Kogoro when he solves a case), and power kick sneakers.

Along the way, Conan makes a few friends and they form the "Junior Detective League", and he has been solving cases for over 1,075 episodes!

Where can you watch Detective Conan (Case Closed)?
In February 2023, TMS entertainment commissioned a new English dub to air on the streaming service "Tubi". Other places to watch include Amazon Prime Video, and Crunchyroll. (Funimation was bought by Crunchyroll a few months ago.)
Detective Conan has 3 spin off series. The first is "Magic Kaito 1412" which is available on Crunchyroll. Then there are the series "The Culprit Hanazawa" and "Zero's tea time", both of which are available on Netflix.

Detective Conan also has many movies, the newest one called "The Black Iron Submarine" is the 26th movie in the franchise and was released into Japanese cinemas in April 2023. You can watch some of the movies either through Prime Viseo or YouTube movies through renting or purchasing.

What is your opinion on Detective Conan? Do you think it's worth watching?

Thanks Anna, an interesting article. I haven't watched much anime - although I did enjoy the Cyberpunk inspired "Edgerunners". I will have to give this a look. Thumbs up
