The Corps of Engineers are currently investigating and hopefully implementing a system where by, members can view New Posts created on the forum in real time. So for example, at present a member will have to press the New Posts link again to get a refreshed up to date page. The new system will allow people to leave the list on, and it will automatically update the list as a new post is made, using a type of coding called AJAX (for the more technically advanced). This is particularly useful for Moderators who like to keep an eye on the forum, but it can be used by general UFP members too.

For people who don't know what the New Posts page is, there's a link to it in the top navigation bar. The page essentially lists the topics with unread posts since your last visit. It has been found that these can be quite useful if you're an active member and do quite a lot within the fleet.

As such, if you could all be most kind my voting in the poll I have created it would be most appreciated. By running a poll, we're hoping to get what sort of numbers would be using the system and whether it is a viable project to complete.

I use this feature basically 100% of the time when i come onto the forums. I'm always watching it and i make sure i keep it as empty as possible I think this would be a good idea.. HOWEVER i hate ajax xD

I definitely use this feature, esp on my cell phone since pages take a bit to load, cuts my browsing time by alot by not having to look through every subforum for posts.

I mostly use "New Posts" for browsing the forums entirerly, as it is imo the most efficient way to do so. That new feature sounds sweet.

"New Posts" is definitely the first feature I use when I arrive upon the forums.

I'd love to see a "New Posts" page that updates live as well!

i always use it as it keeps me update with everything and it easy to find as it there on the tool bar

Not quite in the same capacity. The feature on the old forum wouldn't "remove" already read posts, and therefore wasn't as useful in my opinion.

I love the new post feature and use it almost constantly. Any enhancement to the existing feature would just flat out rock!

It will most probably have to wait now until after we switch to vBulletin 4 and there is enough mod support. Currently, it wouldn't make sense to install the mod when we're going to move over sooner rather than later.

If there is not a mod released with the new version of vBulletin that allows an AJAX page, we may either write a mod ourselves or not implement this at all.

Everything is a possibility at the moment with this.
