As part of the UFP's ongoing commitment to provide an exciting and unique experience for its members we are proud to announce the launch of regular Holiday Events!
For every non-UFPAC month in 2014 the UFP will be hosting a unique yet authentic theme event based on celebrations and festivals from Star Trek lore. Whilst each of these events will be unique they will all feature a range of social activities and at least one gaming event, all of which will be specially designed to tie in with the unique theme of each holiday.
Holiday Event FAQ
When will these Holiday Events take place?
Exact dates are TBC however a schedule showing the Holiday Event for each month will be released very soon. There will be one Holiday Event taking place every month with the exception of UFPAC months.
Why won't these Holiday Events take place during UFPAC months?
There are two reasons for this. Firstly although these Holiday Events will be regular we didn't want them to occur so frequently that they failed to be special. Secondly both the Holiday Events and UFPACs are unique events and we hope that members will see both as real highlights in our calendar, with that in mind it didn't feel right to try to do both within the same month.
How long will each of these Holiday Events last for?
The majority will take place on a single day although there will be some that take place over a number of days.
Which Star Trek holidays have been selected?
The following authentic Star Trek celebrations have been chosen:
- Ancestor's Eve
- Day of Honor
- Federation Day
- First Contact Day
- Gratitude Festival
- Kot'baval Festival
Why were those Star Trek holidays selected?
Although there are a number of celebrations and festivals in Star Trek lore that we could have chosen these events were picked as they show off the diversity of Star Trek and we felt they represented a great selection of unique themes that allowed for the best range of fun and engaging activities.
What sort of activities will be taking place?
The exact activities will vary depending on the holiday and each activity will be designed to match the theme of the holiday. Examples of activities include:
- Episode screenings
- In-game events
- Lore articles
- Movie screenings
- New member welcome sessions
- Real world articles
- Roleplay events
- Special website/forum themes
- Story writing competitions
Will each holiday be authentic?
Yes, each holiday has been selected because of it's unique theme and the options it gives us for providing exciting events to members that fit in with those themes.
Will each holiday take place on the correct canon date?
The majority of these events do not have a specific date specified in canon. Whilst suitably authentic reasons will be provided for the timing of each event so as to not break immersion to be completely accurate simply isn't possible due to the gaps in information provided on screen and trying to remain completely true to canon all of the time would come at the expense of member experience.
What about 2015?
Our hope is that these Holiday Events will be successful enough that there is a demand for them to continue after 2014 in which case I would expect for them to do so. If we do continue these Holiday Events then we may review the line up of celebrations and festivals and will certainly mix up the actual activities for any events that do return to ensure they continue to offer members new and exciting experiences.
