Do you enjoy reading Star Trek?

I'd like to get the members of the UFP's thoughts on the realm of reading Star Trek.

Below is a poll with a couple of questions, if as many people as possible could respond. Feel free to share your personal thoughts on the Star Trek novel universe, whether you're an avid reader or not.

Do you like the post-Destiny trilogy storyline that has been developed? Do you get stuck on which book should be read next?

Finally, do you think the UFP should have more of a dedicated place to discuss Star Trek novels (a book club of sorts). Post your thoughts!

If I were to actually read more than I do, this would probably have been higher than sometimes.

I always have a Star Trek book on the go. Currently going through the Enterprise novels set after S4, loved the post destiny novels but haven't been a fan of David R George and the DS9 continuation, I am also not a huge fan of the Voyager novels.

Give me a new TNG, Titan and occasionally TOS novel and you may not see me for some time. I would like to see a Novel section it would be good to know what to read next while waiting for the next installment of Titan or TNG.

I used to read a lot of the TOS novels. One of my favorites is Uhura's Song. That was when I had a job with enough down time to read. A Star Trek Book club would be a novel idea.

I'm less of a fan of the more recent continuation stuff (Destiny/Typhon Pact, DS9 Relaunch), but I love the more "classic" stuff. Two of my favorites, and what I'd consider must reads, are the novels Prime Directive and Federation by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens. The first is probably one of the best Original Series novels written, giving each and every member of the crew a time to shine. The latter is a great story that is sadly so non-canon it hurts because it's just so good. It's a great story that puts the crews of Picard (circa Season 3 of TNG) and Kirk (circa Season 2 of TOS) together with Zefram Cochrane (the version from Metamorphosis as opposed to Fist Contact). An honorable mention has to go to the TOS novel How Much for Just the Planet?, a book that is the love child of Star Trek and a madcap musical.

Prime Directive I found odd I must admit, the sudden disbandment of the crew, some being pirates. It was a strange read. Federation was indeed a very good book, I would highly recommend it.

The only one's I don't read are the Voyager novels as I didn't really liked the TV show that well. I like the TNG and DS9 post TV novels and enjoyed the Birth of the Federation novels so far as well.

I am not a novel reader (although I used to be) in general, as I tend to stick to comics. Yes, Caymen needs big pictures. That said, if I were a novel person, the book club concept would be pretty neat. And it gives people ideas to read to boot (like Neo and others said).

I'm an fairly avid sci-fi fiction novel reader. Lots and Lots of Star Wars EU stuff, but have recently gotten into Star Trek stuff.

I started with "A Time to..." series (TNG) which was a great start for me, as I have familiar with the Enterprise, Picard, Riker, Data, etc. Great stuff in that series.

After a few previews, I read the first book in the Vanguard series. I was pretty surprised at how it gripped onto my interests and I read all of that series.

I then jumped to the Titan series and it was hit or miss. Some parts were really good, some not so. Mainly it was hard to keep track of the crew as they were soooooo different. It felt like the "Anti-Enterprise". Like the Titan crew was trying everything to *not* be the Enterprise crew. I will say, I did like Christine. As she was a favorite of mine in the "A Time To series..."

Now I'm looking forward to jumping into the "The Fall" series.

I've not actually read any Star Trek novels. In my defense, that's not through lack of interest; it's more to do with not knowing where to start and struggling with time recently what with all of the books I'm reading for uni anyway.

Also, Caymen: You could always go to book club and recommend a Star Trek comic

I genuinely think a book club would be something worth looking in to. I've always wished we had a part of the forums which focused on Trek collectibles, so perhaps something could be done to merge these two ideas together?

I have always been interested to get into the books, however my dyslexia is a large barricade so I am more looking at the audio books, I did listen to Q Squared and I enjoyed that one so certainly looking at getting more into them. I wish I could read novels but my brain processes them in an academic manner rather than adding the emotion and story to them.

Anyway, I do with a book section would be nice and possibly a collectibles, it opens up for a wider range of Trek discussions

I used to collect the Star Trek books back in the day, my fav book being Vendetta... awesome awesome book. I recently purchased Federation: The First 150 Years.. very good read so far.

I read a lot of TNG series back when I was in school, but now I just don't have the time anymore. When I do get free time, I'm usually in game or watching a movie. :-D

I have a lot of them from the 80/90s, but haven't kept up much since.
My favorites are the "Invasion" series. 4 books, 1 for each crew (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY) following the same enemy... The Furies (devils and medusas and stuff).

I have been reading the continuation of DS9, which has spilled over into the TNG & Titan side of the universe with the Typhon Pact and all of those things going on. Other than the fact that David Mack can't seem to do anything but re-use old story structures, I have really enjoyed the re-boot or continuation. The last few books haven't been the best, but I'm hopeful that with the series of events coming to a close that they were covering, it should spin off into a bright future for the future novels.
