Trade Paperback/Graphic Novel discussion

As I've said before, some of us neanderthals and/or art lovers prefer comic books over pure text novels. I don't have that many in Trek (I have almost every TPB in the Star Wars universe ever printed - ok, maybe only 80%), however I do have a few comics and I have and love the Countdown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Countdown) TPB prior to JJ Trek. I think I have Nero as well. I love the art in it, as it is the newer smoother comic book art as opposed to the Archie Comic Book style, which I cannot typically read.

So I just wanted to see what people own or have read. I might consider some new Trek TPBs if the art is good and the storylines are well done.

PS: I'd prefer we avoid any crossover arcs, although I know some folks are into that.

I have only ever read one Star Trek graphic novel, in fact I think it is the only graphic novel period, and that was Ashes of Eden. Its the first of the Shatnerverse stories set between the end of Undiscovered Country and the launch of the Ent-B, its about Kirk leaving Starfleet to protect a race of genetically bred Romulans/Humans/Klingons.

It was an exceptionally long time ago but from what I remember it was a good read and decent graphic work.

Here is a nice review: http://them0vieblog.com/2013/08/19/s...comics-review/. The art is a bit older/Archier than I prefer, but not bad. I might have to see if I can find one somewhere cheap ($5-$10 USD on Amazon used).

The main thing is its a decent plot overall and has some dark moments, it does have an old style graphics looking at those images but it was 20 years ago, and now I feel old

Haha yeah, my bad. I pull out my Batman (Keaton) movie adaptation comic (1989) I feel old as well. I love movie adaptation comics.

Any other graphic novel readers out there?

I have been intending to read Turnaround by Peter David, I am a fan of the New Frontier series and I got exceptionally confused when I read #17 only to find that there was a story beforehand that was majorly referenced. I knew I had read all the books before hand so it was really frustrating to find there was plot missing due to a graphic novel, an area I don't generally read.

From a personally point of view I get really annoyed when a novel references another novel/graphic novel that I haven't read as I MUST know all the plot involved, this was really apparent in Star Wars novels as almost all of them reference Dark Empire and Crimson Empire major Star Wars graphic novels.
