Evening ladies and gents,

I was just taking an evening stroll through Reddit and I came across this subreddit with an interesting link. Thanks to Google Cache we have a link to the old standalone STO launcher for those of you who don't like using ARC or Steam to launch STO. You can download the old STO installer HERE. You can also find the subreddit I mentioned HERE.

Clicking that link should automatically download the launcher. As the stand alone launcher doesn't require ARC or Steam to play (yes I know you can just use the EXE directly...) this gives you some nice freedom of choice where you install Star Trek Online.

I may just be lucky, as I've had zero issues with Arc, but I don't know what all the fuss people have with Arc.

What is so bad about it?

Well...I haven't had any problems really except for one that popped up several times I used Arc. It would happen when I closed down STO, the game wouldn't register as closed so Arc wouldn't close because it thought STO was still running.

I wouldn't say anything is wrong with Arc. I just know some people don't like having a whole host of process running in the background. I don't see a reason to have arc running in the background when all I have running is STO. I don't run any other pwe game. I like Trion's launcher, Glyph, it only runs to launch your game then closes.

^^^ This exactly. I have never used Arc so I really can't say I like it or hate it but I'd rather devote system resources to running the game. All I really need for a launcher to do is launch the game and then close itself when the game is running. The only exceptions I have is Steam because of the large catalog of games available there and the client for Armored Warfare which didn't even have a standalone launcher to begin with. However, because I enjoy playing AW and the client has the option to turn off client-based pop-ups this is the one exception I am willing to make.

There's no need to download it separately if you've installed it with arc. The old launcher is still there.
For me it's E:\Games\Perfect World Entertainment\Star Trek Online_en\Star Trek Online.exe I've made a shortcut to that on the desktop and it's been working fine.

It is. I always used the Mac client when it was available apart from those times it was so bugged that it made it unusable. Which was a right royal pain in the... At the risk of reopening a pc/Mac debate, the market is very different these days from the the old pic only for games standpoint. I realise it would take more resources but i wish more developers would take a better view in macs. I enjoyed games like tomb raider and shadows of mordor on my Mac with excellent graphics and no issues. Now I use steam which is handy for swapping between Mac and pc via boot camp but it remains an inconvenience to do so.
