    CBS’s copyright claim against a 2008 German fan film leaves fans scratching their heads.

    CBS/Paramont is now targeting fan films regardless of when they were made. This is what happens when good people choose to do nothing.

    Don't think for one moment game mods will be safe. They want complete control of all things Star Trek.

    I think it's fair to say, there was only one choice in that...otherwise Star Trek as a franchise would be ruined if the IP wasn't protected by CBS/Paramount.

    During his controlled Q/A about the guidelines.

    Fan films that are currently out there will not be retroactively shut down/scrubbed. "Absolutely not" says JVC. "Anything that is already out there will remain out there."

    QUESTION: regarding a show that has been "being worked on for 20 years and he remastered some of it and was just about to put it up on YouTube." [Editor's Note: This presumably refers to YORKTOWN: A TIME TO HEAL, which is the only show that's been in production that long.]

    JVC: "Guidelines are meant for films on a going-forward basis. If this is a film that has already been in existence before... that's not an issue for us."

    "We're not reviewing your script, we're not reviewing your ideas, we're not reviewing your casting, we're not reviewing your creativity. If you are done with your film and you feel it fits within the guidelines and you're happy with where it's at... by all means, get it out to your public... We're not looking to micromanage what you do."

    "If they do it great, they may hear from us to say, hey, that was awesome."

    It was a YouTube takedown request, always goes through until challenged, it's not a great system and it's automated. But if it's discovered, the company has to put in a takedown for the reason above, or it could have been someone pretending to be CBS, Google systems for copyright detection are flawed because they are automated.

    There is currently only one side of this story, gonna need more to draw conclusions otherwise we're in conspiracy theory territory and we know how well that went for Seven of Nine.

    YouTube is BS. Those asshats once pulled down the officially posted trailer for a movie for copyright violations.

    Would a company file a notice on their own posted trailer? Of course not, it's just YouTube copyright BS where they bend over without bothering to verify anything at all. Worse is when a show uses something under fair rights, then gets hijacked by somebody without any claim, yet manages to get the ad revenue for the first few weeks before the content producer is able to navigate through YouTube's administrative labyrinth to get paid for their work. By which time it's too late, of course.
