This is insane. Since the new graphics patch, I just can't get in for more then a few minutes at most. Everytime I move, a screen changes, anything really has a more then 80% chance of crashing me to desktop and then I can't get back in for hours.

I haven't had the time yet to fully troubleshoot this and try to figure it out. I know my PC isn't the most powerful so maybe that's the issue, I just can't handle the new graphics. I'd move to console except I can't freaking keep my lifetime sub if I do!

Hope to have time this weekend to try it out, examine the logs and event viewer entries and see what is happening and if I can fix it.

Anyone else having issues like this since the 'upgrade'?

That is off, all it does is make the game blurry and crashing instead of clear and crashing

Hm, perhaps manually choose DX9 if it's set on DX11 or Auto? That option will be under Advanced, along with other trouble-shooting stuff.

Try to reset all setting, it might also help if we would know what hardware you are using.

It looks like DX9 may have been the winner, thanks!

After switching it, it crashed again but when I logged back in it was still on 9 and I was able to log in my characters, move about, do some missions and play a bit without incident.

Game is a bit slower but i think that's because the settings are a bit high, will lower it and continue to play, but seems (for now) that I may be good to go again.

Someone already mentioned it earlier, but if you post what hardware you are using it would help a lot. Some of us might have the same, or similar enough, hardware to help you out, and some are quite good at searching and finding answers if they have enough info.

I thought I was going to be screwed when DX9 support went away as I could never get the game to play right in DX11. However, since the announcement, I actually took the time to play around with my graphics settings and I now run just fine (mostly) using DX11.

Lighting 2.0 still causes problems, and I don't have everything set on max like I used to when using DX9, but I must say, the graphics still look better than they did using DX9, and I while I still have occasional crashes, mostly during map changes, the crashes are no more frequent than they were using DX9.

Sorry for the delay in responding, had some surprise road trips come up for work. Fun but very tiring and long.

I'm pretty sure a new video card is required, but am hopeful there may be other options. That said, this thing is at least 4 years old and wasn't cutting edge when I bought it.

Your graphics card should support Direct X 11, so that isn't the problem.

Might just need to play with some of the other graphics options, maybe the ones that are a bit CPU intensive?

I used a lot of trial and error with my system, and I still can't play with lighting 2.0 on without a D3D crash occurring anywhere from at the loading screen to 25-30 minutes of play. Usually withing the first 2-5 minutes. However I have found settings that allow me to play just fine, and are "enough" that I can turn 2.0 on for those few maps that I find impossible to see without it. Other than the fact that I have Intel graphics and yours is AMD our other system specs are almost identical so my settings might work for you.

One thing I found during my trial and error process was that the "sliders" made more difference than anything else. If I move either slider any higher than it is right now I will start getting D3D errors, where they are I can play for hours with no problem and everything looks great.

Something I just remembered. It might not make any difference, but it's worth checking out. Some games have problems if the game resolution doesn't match your desktop resolution. A search of the STO forums shows some really old posts, like from just after launch, where people had that problem with STO. My game was running in 800x600 and would not allow me to change it. I found that when running windowed/maximized it won't allow you to change your resolution. If you switch to full screen, you can change it, then when you go back to windowed it retains the new setting. I am now running 1368x768, same as my desktop. Didn't have any effect on my D3D crashing problem, but the game now looks a heck of a lot better.

So I got an unexpected bonus at work and decided to splurge and get a new video card.

WOW.

I can't explain the scale of the differences. Zones I could barely move in I am now running through at high end settings.

I truly had no idea how good the space scenes looked!

Not counting the scores of other games I can now play lol

So thanks for all the advice team, but the new video card seems to have resolved it all
