Early Life:

VonGrippen is the eldest of two boys, of the former Governor of a remote colony world. Raised in a heavily academic upbringing he was expected to learn, excel and eventually enter a career in politics. Fortunes changed after his father was unexpectedly struck down by a Stroke leaving the Young man free to pursue his own career. Given his diplomatic skill, he chose Starfleet and enrolled in the Diplomatic and Cultural studies corps.

Academy Life:

VonGrippen studied at the golden age of exploration, The Ambassador Class was new, the alliance with the Klingons fresh... whole new frontiers were opening up and there was peace. His Cadet Tour was a posting to Romulus as an aide to the Embassy. He engaged in, and performed his duties well, learning a lot of the culture and earning himself a reputation of being a level headed, fair man who respected the culture he visited as much as he wanted others to respect his own.

He graduated with a Doctorate in Archaeology and Cultural Studies, his final years spent as a TA to the Eminent Professor Wright. Dean of Ethics to the academy. This gave Alex his opportunity to teach at the Academy in his own right, earning his own classes and a reputation as a stern course master.

After the Dominion War had come and gone, VG had spent much of the war working on the diplomatic front, seeking alliances and putting out diplomatic brush fires, to keep the Federation alive in its darkest days. He was stationed to the MIDAS Array project where he worked after it was used to successfully contact the Delta Quadrant. He was part of the diplomatic team that used the array to contact races and species in the Quadrant in the wake of Voyager's transit.

Returning to the Academy again, he was given a position teaching about the various races he had discovered and interacted with. Inter-species Cultures was a passion that fired up his students, his course was much sought after, and became a benchmark for anyone seeking to enter the Diplomatic Corps, or go on to Command School.

This all came crashing down when he divorced his wife Katherynn...

The Divorce was a dark time, the Professor losing everything he had to her Lawyers, including a brutal restraining order that imposed a ban on his ever setting foot on Earth while she was on it.

Left with no choice but to resign from the Academy, he accepted a deep space posting while he rebuilt what was left of his career. He excelled, earning his eventual opportunity at command... the Outbound Navigation Expedition, which saw him successfully circumnavigate a puzzling and daunting spatial anomaly in a Scout ship.

Upon conclusion of this feat, he was offered a chance at Command of his own Starship
