    I have a bunch of the liquid metal slime dudes. Leveled one up for the funsies, keeping the rest because they're worth like 30 million XP or something, so when 7-star hits I'll be able to level somebody up. Big Grin

    Burned through all the 4-star tickets I had, like 15 or so. And like 40 normal tickets. And I'm still pulling because I can't help myself. Sad

    Not gonna use lapis, though!

    Alright, down to 35 tickets, I'll stop. Nothing good at all.

    Huh, sounds like this game isn't all sunshine and rainbows then.
    Hey Tatchi, this game is from the Japanese gotcha system. When dark and I are talking about pulls or rainbows we normally talk about the best units available from the banner. I'll do a hypothetical banner for you maybe I can get you to see what I mean.

    Lets say for instance FFBE came out with a crossover with star wars... feature units were ROTJ Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia New Hope, Han Solo Endor General, and Salacious B. Crumb the Kowakian monkey-lizard. Now they probably would setup for instance luke, leia, and han solo as 5 star units which would also be referred as rainbow units because when you summon a rainbow crystal would come down with a percent change of being a feature unit, which is pretty low if I remember.

    With our current banner with dragon saga crossover rates are 5* or rainbow is 3%, 4* yellow 19%, and 3* blue 78% blue
    With more then one 5* on the feature that percent is even lower.

    Hopefully that make sense. But dont let this all confuse you if you want to try the game. Still a lot of good units that people like lowered star -- FFBE allows you to upgrade almost all units to higher stars/rarity however the 5* feature units will always only be summoned at rainbow level this is where you see people complain like me lol. It's just how people determine meta is through the 5* feature units or the popular choices and trust masters.

    Officially (and there's nothing to indicate otherwise) the rates on a regular pull are:

    3% 5-star base (rainbow crystal)
    19% 4-star base (yellow crystal)
    78% 3-star base (blue crystal)

    So if you pull a hundred times, then you'd expect three 5-star bases, nineteen 4-star bases, and seventy eight 3-star bases. It's really, really dependent on luck.

    5-star bases are the top units with the highest stats, generally superior to the lower rarity units.
    These are headliner units - Sephiroth is the upcoming one - and generally have superior raw stats and abilities. Lightning is an exception, and why she's a "troll rainbow", but she's primarily just been power creeped.

    4-star bases are decent units, and a few are situationally better than some 5-star bases, especially outside of the DPS role.
    Xon is an example of a 4-star unit that are superior to 5-star units at their niche. He has an AoE attack that steals Gil and items, and unlike other Mug attacks it steals 100% of the Gil from the enemy. Further he has passives that can be Enhanced to double the Gil you get, as well as increase the rate of Common and Rare loot drops. VIP for farming, but wait there's more! He also has Twist of Fate, which will steal the buffs from an enemy and give it to the party, while dispelling the enemy. When Xon came out, he broke a few Trials, and even today there's a few trials/boss stages he can trivialize with it.

    3-star bases are generally useful only in the Trust Mastery Reward they provide, with a few being good in very specific and limited situations, but many/most not even able to be Awakened to 6 stars. Ingus for example is a junk unit that doesn't do anything well, and can only be awakened to 5 Stars. But his TMR is Letters and Arms, which is Best In Slot for any MAG user that can wield swords. Then there's Shantotto who only goes up to 5 stars, but has Tornado - something that can dominate the Arena and far outperform even 5-star bases if the content requires magic damage (due to physical immunities or very high DEF).

    Also there's units referred to as chainers, because their main damage ability is split into multiple hits, and when you alternate hits with other units it builds up a chain that at max will multiply damage by 4. Chainers get most of their damage out of those chains, and even a 5-star base can be far outperformed by 4-star or even 3-star bases if they have nobody to chain with (the attack frames need to match, or the chain will break). There's some 3-star bases that function as "budget" chainers for certain 5-star base units, making them extremely valuable if you don't have someone for said 5-star base to chain with.

    Really only the tippy top content really require you to have 5-star units, but having a good one will make everything easier. That's why I recommended rerolling starting accounts until you get a good rainbow, or at least a rainbow.

    Great explanation guys!

    I decided to jump in and do a single summon (with a special ticket). I got a 5* emperor from it. Should have bought a real life lottery ticket instead lol
    Not sure if he's any good as far as five stars go, but I'll take it.

    Emperor is a pretty good 5-star base. His TMR was boosted in GL, and is the best Rod available in the foreseeable future (JP is 6-7 months ahead of us, and they have nothing better).

    He's not a chainer so you wouldn't really pair him with a duplicate (or at least another unit with the same attack frames), but his Fire From Below ability is one of the highest damage sources for long trials. It increases in multiplier each cast, and he has innate dual cast to cast it even faster, going from x2 to x20 at max. He was VIP for a lot of previous difficult trials because he could deal significant damage by himself and leave the other slots free for support/tanks, whereas a chainer would need a partner and thus require two slots.

    I note you're sharing Ashe, and she's actually an AoE magic chainer with her level 100 ability, Heaven's Fury. 10 hits, with a 10 frame delay between hits, she'll chain with a lot of people. She's one of those "can be better than 5-star base" units if you can get a second one (either personally, or just a Friend) because of that ability (which also heals you!).

    Oh, I assumed everyone got Asche as I got her from the tutorial / story beginning. She started out at lvl 100.

    Speaking of pairing Emperor with a duplicate, believe it or not, but I summoned his 5* duplicate from the Zephirot banner. I guess he's the most common rare around lol. Any suggestions on what to do with the duplicate then?

    Loving the game so far, it's quickly becoming a mobile favorite. The only thing not so great is the difficulty or lack thereof. With my early 5 stars I one shot everything in story mode, but trying an event I get one shotted myself. There are only these two extremes right now. I'm sure that will even out more as I progress though.

    I haven't really figured out this chaining yet. I assume this means some attacks can be chained after each other between certain characters?

    Story does get more difficult if you're not keeping up with levels or trustmasters same with vortex stuff (raids, events, trials, and etc). Yeah, I made a post about good chainers a few replies back I'll see if I can find it and put in on the first page. Let me know your friend code Dark and I can friend you if you like. You'll be able to use our leader unit. Usually changes depending on what is going on event wise or trial that was released. I also added Dark and I code too if you want to add us instead, but if you give me yours I can put on the first page as well if you like.

    Speaking of pairing Emperor with a duplicate, believe it or not, but I summoned his 5* duplicate from the Zephirot banner. I guess he's the most common rare around lol. Any suggestions on what to do with the duplicate then?
    Nothing wrong with a duplicate Emperor, you'd want a second TMR if you want to Best In Slot for a mage. Two is at least handy for the Arena, since they'll have the same magic so you can chain them (though it's a low chain).

    Said mage would need Dual Wield (Zidane TMR, 3 star base) to wield both, but magic uses total MAG rather than per-hand. That's different from melee, where dual wielding will show a total number, but actual attacks (they generally attack twice with dual wield) are calculated per-hand.

    Loving the game so far, it's quickly becoming a mobile favorite. The only thing not so great is the difficulty or lack thereof. With my early 5 stars I one shot everything in story mode, but trying an event I get one shotted myself. There are only these two extremes right now. I'm sure that will even out more as I progress though.
    The current FF VII event? You should be able to get the low difficulty ones at least, the higher ones are going to be out of reach until you get more/better units leveled up. Enough MP with chaining units will wipe out everything.

    The event Trial is probably going to be out of reach until you have a leveled/geared balanced team of tanks and everything.

    The event Raid just requires you to kill it in one shot. Not sure if my shared Sephiroth can do it, the Blossom Sage Sakura I had up earlier could one-shot it (well, two-shot with her dual casting thingy).

    I haven't really figured out this chaining yet. I assume this means some attacks can be chained after each other between certain characters?
    It's not limited to certain characters, they're just better at it.

    The wiki article:
    By hitting an enemy in quick succession with different units a chain is initiated. The more attacks you hit, the bigger the chain length. A chain starts with the second successive hit. If the same unit hits twice in a row that chain ends.
    Within a chain, the damage of the next hit in a chain is multiplied by the chain modifier.
    The chain modifier increases by 0.1 every normal hit, with an extra 0.2 for every matching element. It caps at x4 damage.

    So say you have 5 identical units, who all hit once with their normal attack with deals 10 damage. You tap them all in sequence and they all hit within 20 frames of each other, resulting in a 4-hit chain.
    The first hit deals x1 damage, the next hit deals x1.1, the next x1.2, the next x1.3, and the last hit deals x1.4.
    So rather than dealing 50 damage, by getting them in a chain you've dealt (1.0+1.1+1.2+1.3+1.4)*10 = 60 damage.

    Now let's give them all an elemental weapon and do it again.
    The first hit deals x1 damage, the next hit deals x1.3, the next x1.6, the next x1.9, and the last hit deals x2.2.
    By having them chain with the same element, we're now dealing (1.0+1.3+1.6+1.9+2.2)*10 = 80 damage.

    Now what if their normal attacks actually hit twice, for 5 damage each? (But not fast enough that the same unit will hit twice before another unit gets a hit in.)
    Instead of a chain of 4, now we get a chain of 9. Now we're dealing (1.0+1.3+1.6+1.9+2.2+2.5+2.8+3.1+3.4)*5 = 99 damage.

    Very obviously, we want long chains with matching elements. Which brings us to the units referred to as chainers - units which have attacks with a lot of hits.
    The "Holy Explosion" family of chainers consist of Orlandeau, Veritas of the Dark, Sephiroth, and with the relevant ability enhanced to +2, Fryevia and Agrias.
    I'm probably forgetting somebody, but with the exception of the last unit they're all 5-star bases. Agrias is a 4-star base, and generally considered "budget Orlandeau" (Orlandeau being the first of the family to be released). These units all have access to an ability with 7 hits and a frame delay of 7-5-7-7-7-7. They also have identical frames between attacks when dual wielding (which causes the units to attack with the same ability twice), which means 14 hits per unit when dual wielding. They chain perfectly together, so two units will result in 27-hit chains. If using the same element, chains reach the max multiplier at 10 hits, so the last 17 hits are at x4 multiplier.

    There's also some more common frame delays, for example Chizuru, Tidus, Setzer, and many others have attacks with a frame delay of 5 sp they chain relatively well together depending on the frames between dual wielded attacks.

    In JP many 5-star bases can become 7-star now. To do that, you need one maxed out at level 100, and then convert a second one into an upgrade crystal thing.

    You're right, I did the FF VII event and beat it at the first couple of tiers, including Pro, but I got roflstomped at Elite level.

    OMG, I was not prepared for the difficulty of Mt. Nibel Exploration on HARD.

    My semi-blind team got their butts handed to them, and then even after reading up on it with all these things about how he'd counter physical and magic attacks with different things, and trying cover tanks and provoke tanks and everything, I got murdered another 3 times. Heck, a random dragon encounter ganked me twice. Yeah, that was 120 NRG worth of failure right there.

    Read somebody going "Forget the missions, just gonna OTK him" with break + buff + Fryevia chain prompted me to try, and finally I beat the dang thing. Got all the missions, too!

    Noctis for the +124% from Armiger. Just needed to fire Link +2 twice on the way to the boss to prep that LB. Enhanced Soleil should work as well, but you won't get the LB kill mission. Enhanced Ramza was what the commenter used.
    Basch was already in my party, but a cheap alternative is Warrior of Light. Their purpose is Armor Eraser, because while the boss is vulnerable to DEF/SPR breaks he's immune to ATK/MAG breaks. I also tossed the accessory gives Escape so I could skip all the encounters after Noctis built up his LB (especially in case another Dragon showed up).
    Ace was already in the party from previous tries as a mana battery, but anybody will do since his purpose was to carry the Siren esper for Hero's Rime, to pre-buff before Noctis' LB kicked in.
    Fryevia (and friend Fryevia) to chain Frost Flower Blitz +2, mine had Bug Killer materia using Golem (which gives Bug Killer). Another chainer could probably be used, but Fry's FFB +2 is the strongest available right now and I was sick of blowing NRG pots on this.

    Basch's Armor Eraser and Siren's Hero's Rime to start, then just tapped Armiger and the two FFBs. Boom, one shot and it counted as an LB kill since Armiger fired off in the middle of the FFB chain. Victoly!
