After a 5+ year break, I am going to give SWTOR another try and hope it keeps my interest this time. Things have probably changed so much since I last played that it is probably only superficially the same game I remember, so I am more or less starting all over. I have been looking through the resource links above and reading things on Reddit to get up to speed as much as possible. I am wondering, though, what little "gotchas" I should look out for or other things I might need to know at the very, very beginning to avoid making mistakes that will come back to bite me ... things that might not be included in guides, but are kind of common knowledge to players.

Hi Kickat,

Great to hear that you're interested in coming back to SWTOR! I wasn't really playing properly until a little over 18 months ago, so in terms of what's changed I'm not the best person to advise.

I do have the following advice:

• Until tomorrow subscribers have a 250% experience boost event
• Companions can now be switched freely between DPS, Heal and Tank roles when out of combat - right click on their portrait in the bottom left
• Level 70 is now the highest rank

If you have any specific queries please ask away and I'll see what I can do Maybe others might have some better, more general advice

You will not have many quick bars if you're not a subscriber, but they can be bought with CCs (Cartel Coins). And as Bedders pointed out, time is running out fast to utilize a major subscriber perk or 250% XP bonus, which you can easily be over-leveled for each planet just by only doing story missions and skipping all other missions. Also your companions will be more useful if you unlock all their presence perks in your Legacy.

.... is all I really have to say to that because I haven't gotten around to learning about the companions yet, though I get the feeling I probably should have by level 12

One thing I HAVE learned though, is that I want to choke an Ewok every time the game boots me for being inactive while I am in the middle of character creation, while trying to rearrange my HUD to match what I have in STO, while trying to change my chat text colors to match what I have in STO, while reading tutorial things over and over to get a handle on what I can and can't do without a sub or Cartel Coins, since I am told about something new every 10 minutes, while trying to set my key binds back up after creating a blank key bind profile and accidentaly applying it because there are no instructions ...

Is .. is there a market for Ewok pelts? I am going to have ... access to a great many before too long. It probably costs some coins to have them process or tanned or something, though.
