From May 26–29, we're calling on all prospective agents: assemble your team and dive in during the Overwatch Free Weekend on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One!

For this free weekend, we're making Overwatch's full roster of 24 heroes and 14 maps available for play in a variety of modes, including Quick Play, Custom Games, and the Arcade. Players will also have the ability to level up, earn Loot Boxes, and unlock a variety of different customization options.

Plus, if you decide to purchase Overwatch after test driving the game, you'll get to keep any progress that you made during the weekend—just be sure to use the same Blizzard, Sony Entertainment, or Xbox Live account that you played on.

I'm loving playing it. So far I think I will main myself on Lucio. I do alright with D'Va for tank. For DPS, so far its Soldier but I haven't played all DPS toons yet, mainly cause Soldier is what I used in Tutorials.

Unless you're playing a custom match, you're not always going to be able to play your main. You should familiarise yourself with all the characters and what they can do so you can use your skills to compliment theirs.

As for D.Va being a tank... well she's KINDA like a tank in the sense she has a high health/armour, but her main strength is up-close brawling, as her auto cannons have infinite ammo and pack a punch if you can get close. She's a lot better than she used to be, with her defense matrix being a channeled/recharged ability instead of being a one time use with a long cool-down that could be easily wasted. The only TRUE tank is Reinhardt, with Orisa being a close second.

Lucio is a good healer that can keep a small group alive and can hold a point effectively with his knockback. But he sucks as a tank healer, with Ana being the best for that with her healing grenade burst healer, and Mercy being a quick single target healer.

For me personally, I find myself switching what I play based on what map and if I'm attack or defend. If I'm defending on Honomura or Anubis, I'm either Symmetra or Bastion.

If I'm attacking I usually play Orisa or Reinhardt and use their shields to push the main assault (although recently I'm favouring Orisa more with her greater damage output).

For escort defence, I use Symmetra, Torbjörn or Bastion (depending on map/what checkpoint/who's available).

For Control point maps I try and use Mei, Symmetra, Bastion or Orisa, to either set up traps, block off access ways, or lay down suppressing fire to hold choke points.

For healing, it's entirely situational, based on the map, team comp, what the objective is, etc. You should familiarise yourself with all the healers, because at some point you're going to be matched with a team that JUST DOES NOT WANT TO HEAL, and you'd be crazy not to have a healer.

Play how you want, especially if you're here to have fun, but to be good, be flexible.


Tips for characters I most like to play:

Symmetra: get to the closest choke point and put your turrets up as quickly as possible. Try and hide them in plants or out of plain sight. Don't cluster them either, many Symmetra Car Washes have been shut down by a Phara missle or Junk Rat grenade. Stick to the objective and only go for weak kills (Tanks with low health, or soft targets like Tracer or Sombra). Use the environment for cover and always be on the move. If you're attacking, hide the teleporter near the objective. If you're defending, hide a Sheild Generator (Press Q twice) to keep defenders protected.

Bastion: If you're attacking on Escort and you can get a tank to sheild you, plop yourself on the payload and get in turret mode and Never stop fireing (like so, and so). If you're defending, find a choke point and laydown the supressive fire. Try and keep yourself backed into a corner to keep your power core (you're weakest point in turret mode) defended. Always remember you can repair at anytime, even on the move.

Torbjörn: Mostly the same tactics as Bastion, find a choke point to place your turret, positioned so that you're out of sight so you can spam your hammer to keep it fixed. Your molten core can power up your turrets even you're not near them. Always remember to hand out armor packs to your team, you can lob them pretty far if you arc them.

Orisa: You're the vanguard. Stay with the group as they advance and put a sheild down close to you and always put a new one down when its cooldown is up, and try and place it further down in front of you so your team can move up. If you're sheild is about to go down, activate defensive mode and you should be able to survive (with a healer) until you can place a new sheild. Always keep firing in the direction of the enemy, you're most effective at short to medium range. If you see a foe go around the corner, fire your HALT! ability at the ground in front of it and you can most likely pull them out of cover. That same ability will either detonate if it hits a wall or a foe, or can be detonated with a second press of the button.

Mercy: Stick with your tank, as most of your time SHOULD be moving with them as well, so you can heal with them ease, or power up your damage dealers. If there's a Phara in your group and there's a second healer, you can Fly up and float around with her in the air (By pressing shift to fly to a target and holding space to float), keeping her damage boosted. Pretty fun.

Zenyatta: Not really my fav per se, but useful to have if your team needs a good single target healer, and his Ult is a gamge changer if used correctly (By mobbing a point). If you're playing everyone's second favourite Omnic, use your Orb of Discord to call out targets and communicate with your team to call out new targets. His normal attack can be charged up for a very powerful attack if you can land it. I didn't know this for the longest time and I facepalmed when I figured it out.

Lucio: Stick with the group. When not in combat, use speed mode to move them quickly through the map, but save your amp it up for healing the team (or yourself in a pinch). You should only use it for speed if its totally neccessary like in an Overtime Situation. Lucio can wall ride like in Prince of Persia wall running, which allows you to cross points on the map other's cant, setting up flanking, or if you fall in a pit, you can save yourself.

Ta for the heads up - I've wanted to try Overwatch but as my Blizzard friends list is cleaned out (long story) I'm solo so I never bought the game. I'll give it a whirl for an hour or 2 and see how I get on.

if you chain quick play games you're going to be skirmishing a lot, use that time to try out new characters and to get a feel for it. Right now i'm picking up Mei (Mei is Bei ^__^) by doing skirmishes, and even been playing her more because of that.

if you look at my original post, you'll see that I don't really play characters that require aiming skill, so I stick to ones that don't need that much effort on that front.

I ended up caving and buying it, it's down to £16.99 for the standard version and you can't be bad to that.

Yup same here, I've ended up buying it as I see myself leaving CS:Go for at least an year to move over to Overwatch now lol
