As many of you know there are some games out there that SF-HOLO helps on consoles or supports and there are the rest that do not get that support. Today I'd like to bring to you the idea of a lifetime, a UFP that includes console gaming in it's primiary focus rather than it's lower level of gaming.
What many on the console communities see are communities like the UFP making it seem like console gamers have no bearing on their membership's view. While that, at times, may be 100% correct, it's still damging to the image of the UFP that the few console gamers that want to join don't or DO but get nothing out of it because PC controls the majority of their UFP experiences.
The general idea or discussion I think should happen is below:
- Talk about what CL5 departments can actually have console support
- talk about what games are worthy of support from UFP
- try to involve current UFP console gamers on CL5 positions
- consider (depending on the numbers) making a sub-command of a department or every department simply for console gamers to run themselves
The more you suffocate the console gaming world from great communities like the UFP, the more you encourage them to go somewhere else, damaging the retention efforts of your staff. Many who join UFP on the consoles never get back to me on the forums or pm on the console in question. Their inactive because, for console operations at least, there is NO ONE active enough to lead them. Changing that may change the course for SFO and even SFHOLO on the XBOX and PLAYSTATION consoles.

We've never really advertised ourselves as a console community, I don't see that really changing unless we have people stepping up and volunteering to take on the responsibility of doing such a thing and really, no one has shown such interest. With the exception of the STO console support, where we do have a few people leading it, no other game has been raised and there hasn't been a significant group of people calling for greater console support.
If it can be demonstrated that we do have a significant console following, people who want to volunteer to make such an area work and games to support, then I'm sure it's something that can be explored. But without any of that, there is no point putting in the effort and work for something that may not pay off.
To be able to expand into new areas, we need people to volunteer.

I see an issue here as well, including the staff requirements, and say there was a way to instantly pick staff for said positions. Most of us are here on PC because it is what we prefer (at least I am speaking for myself). Not to mention the costs associated with it. 1) The console, I don't know of a lot of PC gamers who own either console so that is instantly about $250-300USD. 2) Month to Month for XBL or PS+, More money to spend for a "free to play" game, and finally, a new account, in order to support something as creating a whole new account and get it up, running and leveled properly with good gear and traits, would take a pretty substantial amount of time. Not to even mention the whole logistics of managing 2 positions on 2 accounts while having a full time job/school and maintaining healthy social relationships.
Not to piggyback off of everyone else, but it will take someone already on console to step up.
I would love to see UFP get larger and more wholesome, and if I had the time, money and energy to do so I would, but I think this may be issues that a lot of people face when thinking about stepping up as well.

My two cents as a CL5 who also provides Xbox support [to some (limited) extent].
I don't think that involving current staff, not just CL5's, in building console gaming support is realistic for several reasons. One of the reasons is lack of time, as we volunteer here in addition to our jobs\studies and other RL commitments. Furthermore, our community is mostly based on PC gamers with some of us also having consoles, but I wouldn't say that it makes us console gamers. For me personally Xbox is more an entertainment center for friends\family fun. Also we cannot ignore additional cost that would be involved for people who would support such project. For all those reasons we need people actually involved in console gaming who would be willing to step up and help out build console support organization. It is the only way it could work.
So, I would like to use this opportunity to ask all those interested to send me a PM if they would be willing to participate in building our console gaming support.

Some good points suggested, however, the practical costs to actual set up consoles should be considered. PC gamers like myself would rather use that money for PC upgrades (PC Master race and all that). Ignoring the costs, its a matter of interest. I don't own a single console, and I don't think anyone should be forced to especially if they do not wish to be involved with console gaming.
But yes, re-iterating others, people owning consoles within the community who aspire for console gaming to become something much more bigger should join up and bring around events for it. That's what will make the console people stick, and the console interest within this community get noticed. (And perhaps make console gaming great again?)
As far as matter of positions go about UFP, volunteering here has never been an issue! It's been encouraged if anything.
