Good news (hopefully) for any fellow Doctor Who fans out there! The next Doctor is being announced tomorrow (July 16th) after the Wimbledon men's final, which starts at 2pm. I know nothing about tennis save that it has something to do with hitting balls, catching things in nets and causing a racket. Apparently they're very bad at organising things because they can't decide how long it will go on for so the announcement could be anywhere from around half 3ish to 5 or perhaps at times outside those parameters.

Anyone have any hopes about who it will be, or perhaps who it won't?

Kris Marshall is one of the favourites, I think he's a pretty good actor and could do the role.

I've not seen him in anything besides My Family and a few adverts. While he was definitely the highlight of My Family and the most exciting part, for some reason I just get the feeling he'd be a bit...boring as The Doctor? I really don't know why. But if it is him, I'm willing to give him a chance and reserve judgement until we eventually see the show in over a year's time. After all, I never really expected Matt Smith to be good and then he was brilliant!

He's been around as long as Tennant or Smith - 3 Series over 4 years. But it really doesn't feel that long. I wish he'd stayed for another series.

With how short the series are these days, it feels like all of the NewWho Doctors have had incredibly short runs. :c I would've loved at least another year of Capaldi - he's finally come into his own as the Doctor.

I can't wait to find out who it'll be either! Since they've already established that Timelords can regenerate into different genders, maybe the next Doctor will be a woman? Not sure how that would go, but it would certainly be a different direction...

I personally like the older Doctors a tiny bit better. I mean, he's thousands of years old! Man's got to look his age sometimes. :p

I'd sooner have some of the wonderful Time Ladies from the old series back before a female Doctor, but I've not got too much against it.

I have to agree that Capaldi has come into his own. I wasn't sure about an older Doctor Who, but he has become one of my favourites along with David Tennant. The darker and more mature story lines was a joy to watch, especially after Matt Smiths, in my opinion, childishness.

I hope the new Doctor continues to surprise!

Matt Smith did have some very dark episodes with his doctor, I recall the "A Good Man Goes to War" wasn't a light hearted episode, it was a good one too. Depends of if the actor is versatile enough to do both.

It's just that for 50+ years, the Doctor has been a man and this is a bit of a change for some people (myself included). There are plenty of other women who have had important parts in the show's history, not all of whom were stereotypical "damsels in distress". Take Amy or Clara for instance. It'll definitely be interesting to see where they'll go with this and I'll wait to see a few episodes before saying if I like the change.
