    The phaser pistol especially is a nice little nod to the TOS style ones and even reminds me a tad of the updated versions used for the movies. The emitter is also a nice touch back to The Cage.

    I also like the revisions they made to the Discovery her self, the rounded windows and hull color does have a bit more TOS love to it. The only thing I am still confused by is how much more advanced the other ship looks in comparison. I wonder if perhaps the Discovery is a prototype similar to the Defiant on DS9, and is pulled out of mothballs to combat the growing Klingon threat.

    the Phaser Rifle is looking to be a direct continuation of design used in Enterprise. which i like alot becouse it gives the sense of continuation. Not to fan of the entire Klingon design they have gone with. from Ships to Klingon's themselves and their equipment. But i am willing to give the first season a try. before deciding if i want to continue watching or not.

    The producers already said Discovery is a science ship.
