It seems that the bridge was designed for the functionality and ease of filming the show than being anything resembling a functional command bridge for a starship in a sci-fi show.

Look at the spacing. It can easily fit a film crew/camera on rails/wheels for the panning camera shots.

Bar stool bases for your station chairs? Obviously it takes 200 or so years to realize that bar stool bases don't hold up well when your inertial dampeners go off-line. A few helms and ops crewmen catapulting through the main viewscreen will have to be sacrificed before they learn that lesson.

Indeed. The chairs themselves are fine, but it would be good if they had been bolted to the floor, to stop them from falling over.

The bridge itself reminds me of the http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I3cozi2mBQ...heusBridge.png Prometheus bridge, with the raised captain's chair.
It does not, however, remind me of the original TOS bridge, to which this bridge is meant to be a precursor. Quite confusing, really.

Actually, the USS Discovery (if we assume it is a newer ship) is as much as 10 years newer than the USS Enterprise. Discovery takes place in 2255ish, the 1701 Enterprise launched in 2245ish.

I like the look of it. It does appear to be a bit darker lighting, but other than that I like the design!

It's not terrible, but it's too shiny for my taste, also the chair the bridge officers have, look like ones from a cafe...

They could at least have tried to make it look more like TOS's level of technology.. But nope, they rather went with the style of mediocre, and at this point, probably failed film series.. Yea, I've to agree, the chairs look indeed like something you would expect to see in a cafe, and the control panels on the right are waaay too modern-looking. And, don't get me started on those ass-ugly and odd-looking uniforms..

The only good thing I can take home from this pic is that they hopefully won't sit on a pitch-black bridge for the entirety of show.

I was thinking along the lines of TOS's level of tech like this one:



You know, maybe make the science officer's scanner look a bit 'cooler' but try to maintain the general level of tech and look of the show like what we saw in the original series instead of reinventing the wheel with completely different looking designs that only confuse the fans who try to make sense out of the changes in disco.
