Anonymous feedback was submitted to us regarding spoilers and Star Trek, the feedback and a response more specifically will be posted in Feedback Responses as normal. However, I wanted to share with everyone what we have done and will be doing to prevent spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery.

Lazereth has adjusted the forum, so when the spoiler prefix is used in a thread, it will hide the contents that have been posted in the activity stream, see his test image below. This means people can still see a thread has been posted, but won't be spoilt by the content, we do want members to avoid putting spoilers in the title, these will be edited out by our moderators.



The change to the spoiler prefix is across the entire forum, so no spoilers will show in the activity feed if members have made their thread using this prefix. If it's a spoiler, please use the prefix!

Additionally, after each episode for Star Trek: Discovery, a thread will go up in the Discovery section for Episode Discussion, this is to avoid multiple threads on the subject and reduce the chance of unexpected spoilers popping up. Please use these threads as they come up.

Hopefully, we can keep spoilers down to a minimum for Discovery, thank you.

Spoiler tags require people to remember to use them, also, they are annoying since you have to click them! And the tag doesn't work in the activity stream, so it's very necessary. Ease of use leads to efficient browsing.

Ahm you know the Internet is big and will be full of this, I don't see the reason why we have to do this on the forum when the rest of the world will not and since this seems to be a problem for some we should get rid of the Discovery sub-forum altogether as there is none for TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT and the movies.

Not to forget that the viewer ship will be limited in the US by people with CBS All Access, and the rest of the world to people with Netflix.

We have a Discovery forum for discussion there because it's a recent series, once it has finished, all the threads will go into the general Star Trek area. We have considered having a forum for each of the series in the past, but currently, there isn't enough discussion about the older Trek series to warrant new areas.

Regardless of who can see it and if the information is around on the internet is not our concern, we as a community always try our best to prevent spoilers, this was true for major STO updates, as we always told people not to discuss spoilers in the community chat channel, and it holds true for Discovery.

It also doesn't stop people reading the content, if they want to read it, they can still go to the thread and read it. This just prevents anyone saying that we have given spoilers out, since the person clicking the thread has been given ample warning about spoilers, it because their responsibility, not ours. We have done everything we can to prevent spoiling a show, the rest is up to individuals.

If you don't care about spoilers, that's fine, that's your prerogative, but some people do care and some people want a place to discuss Discovery, we want to make sure there is something for everyone. This change doesn't affect you if you don't care about spoilers, since you aren't restricted from viewing the threads, the content just won't show up in the activity stream.

I honestly don't understand the objection you are raising.
