Think this is how the Borg started? Is this really a good idea? I feel like as a people well versed in the Borg, we may have thought about this topic deeper than others who have just now heard of a "hive mind."

As wonderful as the potential gains may be by adapting a "hive mind" I feel that any benefit to such might be a loss to our humanity. I know that it does sound cliche (probably because it is) but I think it would help to remember that we are defined by our failures as much as our successes. By adapting a hive mind we would lose our individuality, and our way of impressing our own unique thoughts and perspectives onto one another.

Take the last US Presidential election, through social media people began sharing their opinions, which is great dont get me wrong, but they also became echo chambers for blasting your opinion to only those who share the same ideologies as themselves, there was no balance to it, no way of reasonable civilized discussion for the subject matter. Now while there were many other issues with the election this was one of them. A Majority of people only see what they want to. Now expand this to a whole species bent on progress for progress sake, scary isn't it. Shut out all other opinions and overpower it with our own. Not the way that I want humanity to continue.

I would vote for E of Wall (a weird Borg name, I have to admit, but they will adapt)

About the topic subject I would just say that even a hive mind might be beneficial in some aspects, I like my uniqueness.

Isn't that what the hive mind is suppose to avoid by using their special algorithm? I think it's more than simple opinion sharing; the hive mind is suppose to beat the whole echo chamber scenario, somehow.

Still an echo chamber when you take into consideration that the borg are an echo chamber in of themselves, incapable of individual thought and blindly following their ruler on the matter of what is right and wrong. Ignoring any arguments that they differ from. That is just my two cents anyways.

Trouble with the Borg is that they are really not a terribly good example, because whilst they are a hive mind, they are also stuck on a singular quest with no exits possible.
A true hive mind that could think for itself and solve problems would potentially be useful, the power of the many do solve world problems etc. But once you get all those different minds (sort of a contradiction there) stuck on a single idea and solution things go a bit wrong. The Borg could have been amazing as a species if they'd used all that power to come up with solutions and not just for trying to dominate and swallow up everything they came across.
At the end of it, their hive nature and singular focus was pretty much always their downfall.
