So on my characters, I generally keep a "stash" of surplus marks. The idea being, just in case I decide I need a few pieces from a Rep set I haven't yet bought, or something like that, I've got a good headstart on the marks for it.

Now, you don't want to have too much of a reserve, because it's not like you can earn interest on Nukara Marks , and you'll soon reach a point where the opportunity cost of earning the marks is greater than what they're worth.

So it comes down to this. Assume you were telling a player who was starting from scratch, "Keep [X] number of marks on hand, and liquidate anything over that into dilithium."

What value do you set for [X}?

Bonus question: Same thing, but with the "plus-Marks" (like Borg Neural Processors).

Just curious how other folks handle this.

500 x3 marks (Full set ground gear) + 3000 (Full set space gear) = 4,500 Marks

If you go for full sets, while they fluctuate - it all ends up to 3K marks. The Honor Guard / Adapted HG cost 900-1000 for 3 piece set, whereas Dyson Space set cost 750 for a 4 piece set.

The way I meant to put that out was, your X is anything free to liquidate, apart from the 4,500 marks mandatory mark requirement for the sets. So now it really depends on how many marks you actually have - if you still have alot, it really shouldn't matter.

Total Marks - 4500 Marks = X [Free to liquidate this as you please]

50 marks for 500 Dil
250 marks for 2,500 Dil

3 Borg Neural Processors/Ancient Cell etc for 1,000 dil
30 Borg Neural Processors/Ancient Cell etc for 10,000 dil

Well I'll also blame my less-than-stellar clarity.

I'd intended X to represent the number of marks kept on hand n case I need to do some requisitions. I'll include an example now; I wanted to avoid using a hard number at first just to keep my own $0.02 out of the way, but I think it'll help clarify what I'm asking.

For my own purposes, for Rep marks, X=1000. I always try to keep a spare thousand on hand in case I want to test out a few new doodads. Anything over the 1000, I liquidate.

Mack, important side note: another option is the Rep's hourly project, which, after you hit T5, grants 340 dil per run instead of 140. So it's about twice as efficient at marks > dil, but takes an hour per pop instead of five seconds.

Back to the original matter at hand, I don't keep an entire set's worth, just enough to "jump start" me if I thought I was going to pick up some new set pieces. I don't keep a larger [X] value because, as I said, I think that's as much as I should bother holding on to without a clear plan for its use.

Am I making any sense?

You are, but then again it's honestly down to personal preference at this point. Sure, 1000 marks could be enough - keeping in mind its 1000 per space set piece and 500 per ground set piece.

If you really don't want to keep entire sets first and maybe just enough to test out one piece from each set (Ground and Space) - I guess I'd at least keep 1500 on hand.

Again, its all personal preference - as what I personally do is that I buy entire rep stuff I can(4,500 marks) - and all my future earnings from them are effectively liquidated - unless I need a couple of marks for sponsorship tokens for other toons.

I'm a build enthusiast. I like to see what bonuses work together. Sometimes I go straight Dyson/Adapted/Omega/Terran. Sometimes I mix match Dyson with Omega or Terran. I have several loadouts - pretty much every console I own is used in some way or another - or some build or another.

Plus once I have all the sets, I don't really have use for marks as I have everything - so I convert them all to Dilithium everyday. So yea, like I said, really depends on how you play the game and wish to spend at this point.

Assuming you've maxed your rep and that's all out of the way, the hourly rep project pays out 340 dil for 15 marks. Compared to the 50 marks for 500 dil, this would equate to 1020 dil for 45 marks - just over double the amount, but it takes 3 hours to generate compared to 5 seconds with the other method.

Doing that sort of thing is worth considering if you've got marks to burn and time to spare, though if you need dilithium here and now, the 50/250/500 options are faster.

I personally have over 3k in each mark, and only liquidate a few if it goes to 4k. If meta changes or I decide I want to fiddle with visuals, I can grab gear without worrying about needing to refill my reserve. I think I've made at least a half-dozen MACO shields at this point, just from forgetting to take it out of the visual slot before dismissing ships.

I think my Omega was at almost 7k for a while, before I decided to equip my BOffs and cleared out a bunch. I never get rid of Elite Marks, because I never know if I'll suddenly want to make a batch of something.

Of course, I have no actual need for dilithium at this point...

I have not tried this as I tend to get enough Marks for a goal, then I stop. Is this refined Dilithium?

It’s not, the dilithium from the rep and admiralty/doff system is given as ore so you’re still contained by the daily refining limits.

If you want instant refined dilithium in large quantities, you have to convert zen on the dil exchange for that.

I tend to liquidate at 500 marks each time, I generally don’t need or want anything from the rep system these days unless it’s a brand new character.
